speedo cable

I recently unpluged my speedometer cable to take out my instrument cluster. Now I cannot get the cable to go back on, it will only push so far, but not enough to screw the nut to tighten? What am I doing wrong?

Re: speedo cable

I was having that same problem awhile back. I ended up replacing the cable abd it went on with out a problem. I went to napa to get the cable, if you do, get the shorter size.... I now have too much cable under my truck and had to do some creative routing....
