Drop Springs or Spindles
Well I'm ready to drop the truck and give it a more cruiser appearance. Who's running just springs? The thing is I'm running 275/60/15 tires on some Chevy Ralleys front and rear. I want to be able to still load a few things from time to time but want the truck to have a good stance. The other thing is I'm still running drums all the way around but I don't really drive my truck all that often or fast for me to upgrade to disk yet (new drums and brakes were just installed prior to purchase). I"m wondering just for cruising and 20 min rides on the freeway what is recommended......every other day driver... i'm not racing just want to have a clean rat rod truck that can haul things from time to time....Pics if you got them will be helpful too.

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
here is mine, its got 4 inch springs in the front, they are okay but im gunna go with a 2 inch spindle and 2 inch spring this winter when i have it parked, it has 275 60 15s on ralleys too so that will give you and idea what the set up looks like

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
My setup sounds pretty much like your's. I have 3" & 5" drop springs w/ drums all around. I also have the same size tires as you on all 4's. I plan on adding dropped spindles as well once I get discs on the front.

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
If you want to keep the stock ride buy spindles if it were me cut a half coil off the springs and put a 2.5 drop spindle on ( cutting the spring a half coil will make it a 1 in drop but will increase your spring rate 10% which I think rides a little better than stock) this will give you a nice ride, handle better and not mess up the geometry of the suspension much (1 inch difference in a arm geometry) then throw a 4 in spring in the back if you still gonna load stuff unless you want it level throw in a 5 in rear spring and add a air helper system in the rear to keep it level when loadn er down

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
Thanks fellas for your input on it. Are there any more out there with pics oh and how difficult was it to swap just the springs, what should I anticipate in addtional cost other than springs and shocks....

Why are you changing from 4 inch springs to drop spindles and 2 inch springs? What do you hope to gain or change?

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
Just finished installing 1.5" drop tubular control arms on my 69 and already had the 3" drop springs in it, gotta change them out to 2.5" drop spindles and 1" drop springs to be able to get the geometry correct. I love the way the drop springs ride, just gotta "correct" a few issues, will be doing that in the next few weeks. I achieved the stance I wanted without bags, and am running
255/70/15 w 15x8 TT2's on front and 285/70/15 w 15x8 TT2's on rear with 4" drop springs, 1" blocks, and adjustable trac bar. Handles like it is on a rail !!!! |

Re: Drop Springs or Spindles
When I First Did My Truck I Ran A 3 Inch Drop Spring In Front And 4 Inch Out Back. It Wasn't Bad For A College Guy On A Budget. I Didn't Like The Ride All That Much So I Swapped To A 2" Spindle And A 1" Spring Up Front. Like An Idiot Though I Switched Out The Rear Coils For Leafs. Been Kicking Myself For That For About 10 Years. The Reason I Swapped Rear Suspension Was You Can't Haul Anything With Lowered Rear Coils
