What to look for in a 51 GMC
Hey Guys, whats up? I've been lurking around here every once in awhile but I finally got signed up. I am 15 and am deciding on what my first truck will be! I have always liked 4x4s, diesels, and rat rods. I thought about buying my Dad's '93 GMC 6.5 diesel, but Then I got offered what I think is a deal!
It is a 1951 GMC small window project. The guy has had it for like 13 years and has a bunch of other projects going and said I could have it for the $1100 he needs for nova parts. He had a chevy 327 in it but accidently froze it! So it has no engine. He has already done: a nova sub frame, and matching rear axle, a steering column from some little chevy car (I can't remember, I think a Citation), new bed sides smoothed hood,(not perfect, has slight lump) rear gas tank mounted under bed for license plate gas filler cut grill shell for a mazda front bumper mazda rear bumper bucket seats Turbo 350, Seals leak, works good So, that is most of the stuff I can remember, Now I'll try some pics My question is, what do I look for? How can I tell that the sub frame will work well, are there things I have not thought to look for? How do I tell if this is a good truck for me? Oh yeah he said I could leave it in his shop till I get glass in it, but the BIGGEST problem is that my family has no Garage!! Okay, can't figure out the pics, sorry. TIA for replies. Jeep & GMC |
