LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
I have a possible chance to purchase a very nice rust/dent free LWB bed for my 70cst. The bed on my 70cst has very good sides but the bed floor has rusted through. So I was going to have the floor patch welded with a donor bed floor to fix the rust areas. My thought is that it doesn't take long to get $1500 in body work. Since this bed is local there will be no shipping cost involvd. What do you all think?

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
Wow, that seems high. I couldn't prolly get 300 for a rust free bed up in this area, in fact i sold a bed and complete frame with suspension for 200. i could buy a rust free pickup, like perfect condition, for 1500 up here, so i can't see spending that much. how hard to find are rust free parts? hope this helps

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
Location, location, location. The northeast does not have a vast supply of rust free metal.
$1,500 seems high for a longbed, but does it come with a tailgate in just as good shape? With excellent tailgate, I'd offer 1K cash and go from there. Example, I could have bought a swb fleet bed in NY that came from AZ back in '98 for $800, but it was bought out from under me It didn't have a tailgate and that was 8 or 9 years ago. Y'all out west have it made. Even here in the south, the older these trucks get, the more "original" trucks I'm finding with bad cabs, beds, doors, and fenders....

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
For Ohio - that sounds about right - maybe a bit high, but finding stuff in decent shape that is 30+ years old *(as in still solid enough to use) around here is difficult. And the time/money/effort to fix something that is rusted, dented, and abused can eat up that amount in no time. Get the solid one - and then sell your old one to offset the cost.
I would say - if you can pull it off - go for it. Good Luck. Lks Dcvn |

Yup, location. I couldn't hardly give away my rust-free, dent-free bed with a good tailgate. I finally got $300 out of it, but it took awhile.

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
the bed i bought to put on my 72 cheyenne 4x4 cost me $350.00 without a tailgate but it is flawless and came with a perfect, rustfree toolbox door. i thought i paid too much--about 4 years ago--but i guess it depends on your location. as you said, it doesn't take long to eat up 1500.00 in a body shop.

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
Thanks guys...I too think it's a tab high but it is local so no shipping cost. Tailgate...No...But I have a very nice cst tailgate I bought a couple of years ago for $50 that I will use. The bed on my 70cst has very nice sides and front but the floor needs a lot of repair and TG isn't worth keeping.
meathead95...how much to ship up to Ohio? Does your bed have any rust or dents? I need to weigh the cost verses the effort to find another one. You just don't find beds that is in this good of shape to often. This bed came off a truck a number of years ago the was front ended and the bed was the only thing worth keeping and it has been in storage ever since.

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
You could get $1,500 pretty easy for and original rustfree long bed anywhere in the rustbelt. But,not a repaired one.At least, not from me.Makes all the difference in the world to me.
While dropping jaws to the prices asked for rustfree western body parts brought east we need to consider the cost of bodywork to have a possibly lasting nice bed and the cost/effort that the importer went through to get it within your reach.I know the guy that sells at Carlisle,Dale. He goes out west searcking the junkyards(has connections,now),pulls/loads these parts(a good bit of work),he has to pay something for them(not free, right?),and hauls them back(how many trips are in a truck?)spending $1,500 in fuel his last trip.Imagine breaking down somewhere between with a flatbed and trailer loaded with beds and cabs.Quite a pickle.I`d say he earns his pay.He sold a complete a/c cab for $1,400 that guy`s said he was nuts asking so much for.The smart guy bought it.Dale doesn`t strip them and that`s w/2 nice doors.Figure the w/s,all glass, stainless window trim, wing vents,dash/heater/ac,tank,hump...whatever. Back to beds...What are repro bedsides/houses/head panel going for?Uh,and a floor?Labor?Shipping such parts? You could easily have $2,500-3,000 into a bodyshop bed. Has anyone in the east looked for a dent-free/rust-free bed before?Prolly spend $1,500 in gas looking.

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
From what I can see...this is expensive for a LWB bed but for a mint LWB may not be that bad of deal. If one considers how much body work is involved in making a rusted and dented bed new...it looks to me that the money saved by buying a bed that will not need any body work will over ride the the cost of welding patch panels to make a rusted/dented bed good. IMO Thanks for the feedback!

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
Here in Missouri that dosen't sound too bad. I just sold a PERFECT long bed for $2200.00, but it was perfect and completly ready for color, floor and all. They will bring that kinda money in the rust belt! You could drive all over, or pay to ship one, but if is right there and you can look at it, I say go for it!!!
Lets see pics if you get it!!!

Re: LWB Fleetside Bed absolute rust free and dent free...is $1500 a fair price
I will look at it within the next few weeks. Curt said $500 will hold it till I start the resto this fall. I will take some pics and post but as you said to find a rust/dent free bed in the midwest is like winning the lottery.
