Antifreeze in my valve train
Hey,
I was wondering what would cause antifreeze in my valve train and down to the spark plugs? Could it be a simple intake gasket or do you think worse?

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
Intake manifold gasket is a possibility, but down to your spark plugs sounds like a cracked head

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
You're probably best to pull the heads & inspect. That way you can see if its the head or the gaskets. You probalby have a nice milkshake in your oil pan.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
A friend of mines 442 was doing that right after an engine rebuild. Head gasket had blown filling the cambers up with antifreeze and on the compression stroke it would push the antifreeze past the valve guides and, well you know the rest. I TOLD him to quit harrassing the machine shop about his engine, kinda like pissing off the cook. Don't know what your gonna get.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
Best to dump that oil right now and cure the problem. Anti-freeze will take out a set of bearings real quick.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
Worst thing is hydo-lock.Let a combustion chamber fill and go to start. On compression stroke it can bust a piston or bend a rod.Don`t run it until pulling the heads and remedying the source. It`s Russian Roulette.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
DUMP the oil! You might luck out. My buddy had a manifold gasket changed at a shop. They didn,t change the oil. Rod bearing let go within 25 miles. GM dealer tore into the bottom end and every bearing was toast. Said it was anti-freeze.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
I think that is what he is referring to, does not want the antifreeze to damage
the motor.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
pull the plugs and WITHOUT PUTTING THEM BACK IN, crank it to blow out the antifreeze.

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
okay..I know that sounded dumb haha sorry...i just wanted to make sure that like turn the key and start it like normal was what I was supposed to do. I'm a newbie to this whole truck working on myself thing...haha...thanks for all the help. I'm going to give that a shot this afternoon after work and see if that helps...Can I pull the intake and look at the gasket without taking the motor out again?

Re: Antifreeze in my valve train
sweet cause here on base we have a hobby shop that's open everyday except monday but keeping your motor on a stand is $5 a day but combine that with bills and trying to find a place to live in San Diego for my wife and I it adds up haha...i'm trying at all costs to not sell the truck and to fix it without pulling the motor...cause if not it's for sale right now if I can't get it fixed and get a decent offer i'm selling it
