Talking Carter AFB Questions

I just bought a truck 81 scottsdale, it has a 350 with a Weiand intake, and an AFB Competitor 4 barrel on it. 2 things,

#1, would a quadra-toilet or edelbrock/holley give me better mileage than an AFB comp.. I've heard that they dont do good for anything but 4x4 and mud bog, not for mileage.

#2, What would cause the truck to run very rough at a low idle, and "jump" if I barely touch the gas pedal? The guy I bought it from, said that it was something to do with the carb, says hes changed setting on it so it ran perfect at an idle, then drive it, and it would run as bad if not worse than before. (It runs great off an idle)

Ive never owned anything w/o a stock carb on it before, so I have 0 exp with anything other than basically rock-chuckers.

Re: Carter AFB Questions

as far as i know raiden carter abf's are almost the same thing as edelbrocks. sounds like the carb is set too rich at idle. as far as the jump i have no idea

Re: Carter AFB Questions

I went to my uncles shop, and turns out that 3/4 of the problem is just how it is hooked up. It has an oil breather on one side, and a PCV on the other. Guess what... PCV was shot. So I plugged the hose for it going into the carb, and left the PCV in the valve cover just for something to cover it till I get another breather cap. Then, when we got that done, I upped the timing a bit, set the carb again, and voila... purrs like a kitten. I just got a new (to me) camcorder, I'll get a vid of it up soon... and more pics as well. Thanks for the responses!
