Airborne hardtop
I'm looking for sympathy...
I've avoided replacing the roof on the house, put it off all summer and, with winter around the corner, I decided this weekend to get it started. And, of course, the wind is howling from 8 am on. So, me and a buddy are wrestling with the old shingles, stuffs flying all over the place. We go town to pick up some flashing, get back on the roof and start pulling felt in a 40 mph wind storm when I look over toward the hardtop... It started the day on a set of sawhorses, but was now upside down between the horses. We never saw it flip, but can guess that it landed on the driver's side front edge and spun based on the damage and resting spot. Three or four big cracks that weren't there the day before. The irony is that we were going to put the top back on today. I could just cry...

That sucks... Makes me glad my hard top is stored in the garage. I had actually planned on putting it back on this weekend, but it was raining so hard I didn't want to be outside.

jeez...mine hasn't moved through a few storms.
I'm sure the fence helps. Maybe I should strap it down.

Forgot to mention that the top was a double wall and, therefore, very heavy. I never thought the wind could blow it off the 2 x 6 's which were across sawhorses. The top was only 28" off the ground but ended upside down on the ground.
I'm lucky it didn't hit anything else; I'm also lucky that there wasn't more damage done to it, although I definitely have more repairs to do now than I did three days ago. At least it didn't crack down the middle. I would definitely take some precautions with any of the outdoor storage solutions out there. I don't know if strapping it down would have saved it, but it wouldn't have hurt to have tried. I would be concerned with those tops higher in the air--say at truck bed height--and I would want to strap them down firmly to the ground and not just to the stand. I could see a gust taking the top and scaffold and just blowing it over. Then you'd have a top with legs blowing around your backyard. Yeee, bad visual... I know I'm not the first guy to have this happen, so everyone please pay attention to my mistake!
