Question Shocks and drops

Put the 4 in drop springs on the rear of my panel this weekend.I haven't hooked the shocks back up yet.They look too long.I have been told stock shocks work.What experiences have any of you had and if you changed them could I get a part #.I would rather use parts store shocks,maybe a Monroe or something,instead of high end aftermarket ones.

Any help???

i used the shorter kby shocks when i did a 4" lower used them for awhile in the stock location then changed to a more upright position with shock relocaters and they worked much better

My '67 panel had coild and leaf springs in the rear, is that how yours is setup as well?

You can re-use the stock shocks on the stock brackets if you can do a little fabricating. You can re-drill the upper brackets to relocate the shock 'eye' bolt higher up on the bracket. Once that's done, you simply trim off the excess metal where the original shock bolt went.

On the lowers, you flip the left bracket upside-down & over to the right side & flip the right bracket upside-down & over to the left. You can either add a small spacer (.250" ?) or flatten out the brackets; they just need to fit flush w/the bottom of the trailing arm. When I do them, I heat them w/a torch & hammer them flat (a big vise or hyd press would do the job just fine). I grind away @ any remaining lip that prevents the bracket from laying completly flat when tightened up.

This mod nets about 3" of additional shock travel (depending on how high you re-drill the upper brackets holes) & allows the use of off the shelf truck shocks. The result is the same thing as the shock relocator brackets that are available.
