What did you get done? 11/18
I was off this weekend so a I got a few things done. Yesterday I spent most of the day running errands, washing the drivers, then went to my bro-in-laws birthday party.
Today I worked a on project for my daughters volleyball team, then got some shop time in on my 77. I left of last week that I had the water pump back on to find out I had an exhaust leak. First I tried tightening the manifold bolts. It helped some but didn't solve the problem. I pulled the bolts, but couldn't get it down far enough so I pulled the other side. It's a good thing I did because both doughnut gaskets are burned up. See pics below While I was under there I decided to change the oil. It hasn't been changed since after the break in oil change, so I thought it was time. Since Jeff gave me grief about my blue oil filter standing out, I painted the new one. Anyone know where I can find doughnut gaskets for a 63-64 327 fuel injected Corvette? What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
well even though im sick as a dawg and gewttign grief fromt he ol lady i had to put brakes on her taurus today, then decided while i was at it, might as well work on my dually..after pulling the oil pan, which is fun with the motor still in the truck. still have no idea why i suddenly have a knock in the motor...been a dependable motor for 5 years, oh well time for a rebuild.. so my project is on hold until sometime next year...i called the guy i got the dually from he said its cursed, he had the truck for a few years and only put a hundred or so miles on it...maybe i need to have it exercised..lol

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Hey Ken,... Try to find some "solid steel" donuts, instead of the fibered ones in your photo. I don't know if they make them that size or not,... but a good machinist could whip you out a set. I used 427 "big truck" manifold donuts in the place of header collector gaskets back in the 80's. They never burn out because they are steel. Actually my Camaro still has a set. Installed back in 1990.

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
The hard part is going to be just finding some...period. These are 3" and most stock manifolds were 2" or 2.5". I agree that steel would be mucho better..

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Ken,... I believe the 427 big truck gaskets were 3 inch. They fit a BB chevy header collector ,... which is 3 inches.

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Went to junkyard saturday w/ bowtieogre, we scored a few things.
After that, hanging w/ my kids, wife was out of town. Watched the ufc fight saturday night, bleh....waste of $. I rarely order any payperviews, but I did notice, my cable provider charges $10 more if you want it in HD, I settled for the normal broadcast. Can't wait for turkey day!

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Not sure about the tall deck 427, but I did find this-1954- 1959 GMC Truck - Gasket, exhaust flange to manifold, 3 inch donut, 270 or 302 L6 engine, GMC

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Drove it. I hadn't opened it up since I got the motor running right. I found a back road to do a standing start run. Without power braking it burned the tires for a few yards and barked them when it hit 2nd. It pulled real strong and I was surprised it ran through the gears as quick it did with the 3.08 rear. Not bad for a basically stock rebuild with an Edelbrock Peformer cam. I was pleased.
If I could just get some drag radials and maybe some cal tracs. |

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
I finished the trans cross member and got it bolted in. I guilt this crossmember to give my exhaust more clearance. I finished sanding the fire wall smooth and shot some primer on it.I started running the plug wires and got them all seperated. I m still waiting on the mandrel bent tubing to get here and Ill start building the exhaust. Heres a few pictures for ya. ENJOY

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
You guys paint your oil filters? Wow, that's very, um...detail oriented.
Anyways, I was jacked to find a used orange hood on eBay in what looked to be good shape not too far from here. I ended up losing out on the bid, though. Since I'd been having problems with my HEI popping control modules a lot here lately, I ordered a Summit HEI on Wednesday. Got here on Thursday, and I put it in on Saturday without incident. Seems to be running pretty so far, so I'm going to consider it mission accomplished unless it pops a control module prematurely. Today I played with my daughter almost all day. More fun even than working on the truck. |

Re: What did you get done? 11/18
Finally got a few minutes this afternoon to button up the motor from the lowrider, started experimenting with some paint for the finished product. This is going in a 1978 Camaro for my 19yr old daughter. The lowrider is getting a 454 transplant this winter along with airbags, interior updates, e.t.c.

Frank - that's the one. I totally missed the email that said I was outbid on it. Should've set my max proxy higher, but it's too late now.
Ken - you know I'm just joshing you about being, umm.... detail oriented. It obviously is a good trait to have when you're into custom trucks. I dunno how fun you'd be to live with, but that's not my problem... |

Nothing truck related, but i did get the offical word that I will be retiring on the 26th of this month so I've been searching the papers for a part time job, perhaps I can now find the time to finish both of my trucks.
