Brake Question

I have a 1981 Silverodo. I am the second owner and the original owner just had new rear brakes and bearings put in just before I bought it. My question is this: My truck has a FULL pedal all the time. When I say full, I mean full. Its all the way up where it touches the AC duct under the dash. You actually have to raise your leg to get on the brake pedal. This is my first classic and havent drove one in 26 years, am I just not remembering how the brakes were? or is there an adjustment to lower the pedal? Any help would be appreciated. As soon as I can figure out how, I will post pics of my ride. Thanks.
