Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale
Looking through the catalog that Barrett-Jackson furnished and Hemmings distributed for the upcoming auction scheduled for January 12-20, 2008. I noted the following trucks:
Lot #24 1970 Chevy 4x4 Short Step Lot #25 1970 Chevy 2wd Short Step Lot #37 1972 GMC SWB / 402BB Lot #336 1970 Chevy LWB Lot #382 1969 Chevy SWB Lot #607 1972 Chevy Suburban Lot #627 1972 Chevy SWB Cheyenne Gotta be sure that someone catches the selling price, and what the comments are. Hemmings had a comment on one in a sale that said that these trucks have reached the equivalent of the first gen Camaro's for trucks. Yippee!!

Re: Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale
Kevin (da-burb) and I went to a Mecum auto auction last weekend here in Kansas City. The only NICE example up for sale was a 72 Cheyenne, 4x4, 1/2 ton, red w/ red interior, auto, 350, ps, pb, a/c. The truck was restored to stock and was done right. I guess it went across the stage and didn't sale. The owner then offered it for $29,000.
Which reminds me, a nice 68 Camaro went for $23,000. Hemmings might be right?? Last edited by tcb-1; 12-06-2007 at 09:17 PM. |

You can go to the website and see everything that's going to be there. The interface is kinda funky though. The few 67-72's I saw didn't look like anything special. Although I'm sure they'll bring the $$$$$

Re: Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale
Ok, so I lied! Burb and a nice BB truck .
LOW mileage JIMMY There's a few nice customs on there too, but if "I" were to pay as much as most of these will bring at the auction, I would want the truck to be pretty stock.

Re: Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale
Great. Nice for the guys that have put blood sweat and tears into perfect restorations, but now every idiot with a rusty hulk that they're selling on craigslist is gonna jack up the price. I can already see the ad: "19xx Chevy truck. Needs total resto. Not driveable. These trucks are selling for 30k on Barrett Jackson. Get this one now for 10k."

I don't mean to hijack, but........... You're absolutely right. Barrett-Jackson is great if you're into cars and trucks for investment reasons. But for those of us who do this because we truely love the cars we own and enjoy the process and sense of satisfaction that comes with restoring them, then B-J is pure evil. Case in point- I've been looking for a good '60-'62 Impala to start throwin' money at because my '67 CST just doesn't suck it down fast enough . I'm not looking for an SS or 'Vert or 409 w/ a Super T10 or anything special like that. I just want a good solid foundation to make a killer resto-rod out of. 2-door hardtop of course, but other than that very little in the way of criteria. I kid you not- the ones I can afford (4-5k) are complete piles of crap! I mean ads like: "1960 Impala 2drht, solid car, ready for restoration. No engine or tranny. Needs inner rockers, lower quarters, floor pans, and trunk pan. Good glass and trim, doors shut great- $7500" Looks like I'm going to have to get a loan to get into the car I want before they are priced way outside my budget....like the Tri-5's and Gen I F-bodies have become.

Re: Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale
....or, "95% restored, just needs interior and tires to be finished." What is meat to one guy is just crumbs to another. I have seen the same kind of stuff that you have seen and heard the same rhetoric about "it just needs a battery" and "Oh, I'm gonna restore it 'one' day".
My reason in posting this one is to alert others to our trucks being in the B-J auction. I have no doubt that this is going to fuel the flames of the folks who think their vehicle is absolutely the finest one in town and therefore is just as good as those in the auction. Daily drivers may be nice, but I don't think they're what is being hyped for the sale. I wanna see the '62 Corvette prototype go across the block...also wonder which vehicles are going on the "Fantasy" list. There's a nice '64 GTO that I'd love to drive, ONE time......
