Who made the best trucks in the early 60s?
I am talking Ford, Chevy, Dodge and even Studebaker.
Address issues such as Rust Drivetrains Chassis & Brakes I don't know a whole lot about the other brands, but as far as rust, I don't think you could come up with a worse design than these chevys. I just got a new fender and I am looking at the rear brace. Its like it was designed to hold dirt! I brought up this question because I saw an old Ford work truck, about a '65 at my local community college. It was sitting in a back lot and I assume this truck has sat outside most of its life. It didn't have any significant roof rust and the fenders didn't have any rust holes. I wouldn't want a Ford of this year, but I would say it might be a better truck as far as rust. Aesthetics aside, who do you think engineered a better truck? |

Re: Who made the best trucks in the early 60s?
Trick Question? The forum name speaks for itself!!! In my shop I have at one time or another built all three. Rust is going to be determined by where the truck has lived. One exception is the 73-77 chevy trucks which had impurities in the steel. Northern trucks have salty roads, south has humidity, both big factors. Dry climate trucks and or stored are always the best start for a good truck. Jerry

Re: Who made the best trucks in the early 60s?
60-66 chevy trucks are my favorite truck body style of any ive ever seen. ive always said that ford had more sturdy bodies and chevy had the better engines. i cant speak for any other brands but both ford and chevy trucks of the 60's were and are still some of the best work trucks you could/can get.

60-66 chevy or gmc, the other brands do not need to be included.

Re: Who made the best trucks in the early 60s?
For me it's all looks. Everything else is repairable or upgradeable but it's gotta have a nice body style to begin with. And well, if it wasn't Chevy I wouldn't be here

Chevrolet - ALL THE WAY!!!
I'm sure if you went over to a F@%D Forum and asked this same question, they would have a different answer... Oh well...

Re: Who made the best trucks in the early 60s?
From 1920's until the early 1940's I would give it to Ford. From the late 1940's until today's truck, it's Chevy's all the way!
As for Dodge....well I would rather have a root cannel then drive a Dodge!
