Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
Wow thats a very clean suburban to take apart for parts but if its worth it to you go for it. (personally would look for a junk truck to take apart tho) If you were in va id show you were they were hidding in rust free shape in a junk yard.

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
That is seriously too nice to take apart. It needs to be driven and appreciated rather than gutted and left for dead.

Man if you have the cash just do it. Just like when starting a project, find the best one available. Rip into it get what you need and sell the rest to re-coop some of your losses. JM.02, Kaysen

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
too much just for a parts truck, plus why would you want to tear up a perfect sub just for parts, then be left with a carcus i bet it would be cheaper for you just to find the parts you need!

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
Yep, if i was looking for what you are off of it , and had the money. I would do it. no one has done more with these trucks the hard way than i have, having the donor for ALL the right parts is priceless and with that one you could get some good money for the remaining parts, shipping is very time consuming and A pain though.
there are people like me who will still buy a complete rolling hulk to part out piece by piece. I say do it. that engine/trans & supporting hardware alone is nearly worth the total price. put a new oil pump & timing chain in that engine and your good for another 100K. crossy

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
Thats the way I think to Crossy!!For me to try and find all that I need it would take alot of time and money!!And like I said before, the trans alone is going to cost me about a grand!!!!!I like to see them all on the road,But you can't keep them all going! If I drive it untill is almost dead, what do you have at the end?????? Have a great Holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
burbans were built to haul the whole neighborhood and your racecar to the track at once. then support the second life of a worn out pickup when those chores are done. that's the way i see em.the stripped down hulk of it is STILL worth $200 on the scale at that point.GET IT and pick it apart like a buzzard does the rotted carcass of a wildebeast in the Sahara. yum yum, reminds me of my wife's cookin;-).
holiday wishes to everyone.crossy

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
You can't put a price on being able to drive the vehicle and know for sure everything works, unlike the boneyard. Sure some boneyards will let ya exchange if something doesn't work but then you have the hassle of the swapping parts twice. As said the parts are worth what you are paying for the rig and you'll have all the nuts, bolts, or whatever if anything on yours is questionable or heaven forbid you drop a bolt or nut into the depths of your vehicle to never be found again. Sounds like you've already made up your mind anyway. I'm guessing you aren't in need of a transfercase, tranny or front diff since you're gonna buy a 2WD.
Merry Christmas

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
Almost right around the corner from me (about 1/2 mile away) there sits an '85 or '86 2wd 1/2 ton Suburban for sale.
It has been for sale for at least a year, probably more. I looked at it the first time I saw it for sale at $3750. Was more than would have paid no matter what but it looked to be in real nice shape. Black with silver beltline. Nice paint, light gray interior looked nice from what I could see including crack-free dash pad, pw, pl, etc. Only reason I looked was hoping for dirt cheap with rebuilt drivetrain. And according to the paper taped to the window it has that; 25k on a rebuilt 454, more or less on a turbo 400 tranny. 1/2 ton with a 454 seemed odd in that year truck but the dash was for a three-speed auto? I was going past it the other day and noticed the faded for sale had been replaced by a new one so I took another look at it. It is now down to $2700 "or make offer". If it could be had for less than $2000 I would consider picking it up. 454 for my '86 GMC long bed to use as my puller Sell the T400 as I don't need it. Sell nice 15x8 rally's and tires Front clip, doors, bucket seats, interior parts for my '87 short bed, etc. Point being, there are a LOT of Suburbans out there and I wouldn't be afraid to take one apart for a better cause?

Re: 86 Suburban Is It Worth It?????
Thats my thinking!!!There are plenty of low to mid 80"s berb's out there!!I feel its better to have a 82 swb 4x4 back on the road then to keep this tank going!! No (offense) to all the Suburban lovers out there,They are great trucks!!!!They are just more plentyfull then a swb pickup, atleast out here on the east coast!!!!!!!!!!!:
