starter issues
ever since i ha the truck the starter has been for lack of better word retarded it wll either stick or run the battery dead while starting anyways it makes the motor turn slow my motor is timed hei is in everything is dead on but it keeps making my battery go dead so i have yet to hear it run should i just break down and by a new battery and worrie abou the starter later

I went through the the same thing,i needed to shim my starter,and the problem went away. Also,buy a new one if you can,the reman stuff is junk! I went through 3 before getting a good one. Good luck

Uh huh, something definitely hanging-up there. I can see 2 possiblilities.
#1 - exactly what big daddy said, meaning mechanical misalignment. #2 - Famous heat problem with chevy starters, The cooper disc inside the solenoid is a part of a high ampereage relay built as part of the solenoid, When they get hot they tend to weld themselves up and stick. In either case get a new good starter, make sure it is fitted right (shim if necessary), AND use a starter heat shield. If you do all of this and the wiring is correct you should have no more starter problems for a long time! |
