Another crossmember ?
OK, First let me say I have read all the crossmember posts I can find. I have decided to section my crossmember 1 1/2". I was also thinking of moving it forward maybe 1", If I do that the steering box will need to move also and the idler arm or what ever it is called on the other side. When I am moving these items forward does anyone see any reason why I can't go up also like maybe 1/2"? this would solve a couple of clearance isues, Like tierods and steering shaft. I would love to here your comments before I get that far.

you have to move the steering components up the same amount as the crossmember other wise you change the steering geometry and it will bump steer like hell.

Speaking from experience, I would highly recommend you save yourself a lot of hassle and go 1 1/8"

I don't know how he's arriving at this number, but I can tell you FROM EXPERIENCE that raising it 1.5 inches leaves surprises around every corner!

I went 1 1/2 then I put in a 1/4 spacer made life alot easier.

Thanks everyone. I wanted to move crossmember forward to center tire in wheel well but looks like next to impossible with stock steering. With 1 1/2" section where is the rub? the lower a-arm u bolt? Thanks for everyones help.

I arrived at that number by "being there, done that." I sectioned mine 1.5, and like others, ended up putting a 1/4" shim on it. I still had to shave a lot of the crossmember so the inner tier rods would not hit the x-member. I also cut down the u-bolt for extra clearance.
