trailer harness Q's
OK, now, keep in mind, my burb isn't here right now.
On the trucks, the harness for the tail lights is under the truck. I had made a plug in piece that plugs in-line with the harness. Flipping through the assembly manual I have sitting in my library (the crapper) I noticed the tail light harness runs up in the roof. Is there an easy way to run the trailer plug? All I need is a 4 flat. I considered plugging in at the firewall where the harness comes out... but again, I am thinking truck terms... I don't *THINK* there is even a plug on the firewall. So does anyone have any ideas? Anyone done this? Anyone UN-done this on there rig? I'll need tail lights if I pull the pop up camper to the meet this summer. |

It runs up in the roof, but you can access it on the drivers side if you pull the cardboard panel out. I think there is a hole that goes through the body underneath. Hope that helps.

Re: trailer harness Q's
The only way I've been able to do this is by having wired to each side seperately.

Re: trailer harness Q's
I wired in a second plug in the front so as to run a full length wire harness to the rear on my son's Suburban. I could not bring myself to cut the wires in the rear, (on both sides).
To do this I made up a male/female/male adapter so it was just a matter of plugging it into the wiring in front with a male plug connected to the female end of the front to rear wire which is routed like the trucks. I ended up not cutting any of the factory harnesses with this arrangement. Jim

Re: trailer harness Q's
are these the same as the truck itself, if so there is a factory plug torwards the rear of the truck for the tailites, they make a kit that will tee right in to the factory plug i had the setup on my 72 i sold last yr

Re: trailer harness Q's
the tail light harness runs up in the top of the truck, over the doors instead of along the frame.
Jim, you saying there is a plug on the firewall like on the truck? (again, my burb isn't here, I can't just go look) |

Re: trailer harness Q's
Andy,
I made up an adapter to interrupt the existing wiring that plugs into the pigtail on the under dash harness. The underdash harness is like the trucks with the same plug and pigtail on it. The wires coming from the back were simply plugged into my homemade adapter so that I am able to have the extra plug reach up to the firewall hole, (which is like the trucks) where it plugs into the front to rear harness. I have ended up with a wiring setup that is completely reversible without any mutalation of the Burb wiring. Outside of not wanting to cut any wires, I was a little concerned about the small wires that connect to the taillights/backup and brake lights. The large car hauling trailer that we use has lights on it that may draw too much on the small wires and I did not want to take a chance on it. I can mock up an adapter like I made and take a picture of it if you like. Jim

Re: trailer harness Q's
Jim, I'll probably take a look at mine tomorow... I'm off tomorow and don't have too much planned.
bsharp... I had to leave the burb at the shop. I had problems with my longhorn, had to leave it there to pull the tranny and replace the converter, ended up with 2 vehicles there, and the longhorn just makes more sence to drive this time of year...plus, I don't wanna give the burb any more salt than I need to. It's home now though. |
