FS 83 GMC 1/2 Ton 2WD 8'

New Mexico 1/2 ton without driveline. Hate to send this excellent frame to the scrap yard, would be great for a resto or what have you. Have to check the rear for ratio but as it was a 700R4 expect it to be a 3:73. Full Roller $250

Bed is sold. Cab may be available, bed buyer has first shot at cab. $950

Front clip is clean, no rust or dents, there is some light surface rust on edges of fenders and hood. Full walkoff, $425

Roof of cab does also have surface rust from thin paint. Cab is AC, manual windows, tilt column with all keys, No radio.

As usual may consider delivery toward Rochester NY, Danville PA, and Cincinnati OH. or Indianapolis IN.

Wasn't the standard rear with a O/D tranny a 3.08 or 2.73 or something like that?

What shape is the cab trim in and how much for it? I am referring to the brushed stainless/aluminum trim that goes around the cab from door to door. I really only need the two side pieces if that would help with shipping, etc.

The frame is available for your project. I need to know your time frame for this, as in the next few weeks the work load for me will increase and I will be away from home on business. I usually get a slug of work in the spring, Feb 1-June 1 and then some in the Fall, Oct1-Dec1. I can get you pics on the frame areas if you have any particular. Do you want the full frame with front and rear suspension or just a portion thereof?

Kevinr1970

From some of my experience, the sbc tended to have a fairly high numeric rear, due to the OD capability of the 700R4, I will have to check this rear to make sure. My 85 SS has the 373 with the 200R4, a similar arrangement.

You are interested in the rear cab corner pieces and the piece across the back of the cab, correct. Rereading your question and paying attention shows you want the corner pieces, so correct me if I missed it. Let me get a pic of these, and visually check for dents and dings etc.

As the post had no driveline, that is the way it was bought, without engine and trans, they were a 305 and 700R4 according to the build sheet.

See your local to me, so if you need a driveline, or trans or ? feel free to repost or email at Boyerlk@aol.com of your needs. I have some other truck and car components and know a few transmission rebuilders.

Thanks for the interest.

I was under the impression that because the 700's had a lower first gear, they generally went with a numericaly lower rear gear. With the lower first gear in the tranny they were able to improve acceleration AND improve gas mileage with the O/D?
But... I have two '86 GMC 4x4's. The long bed has 3.73's (listed on the glove box tag) and the short bed has 3.08's (also listed on the glove box tag).
My '85 short bed 4x4 has 3.73's too but no glove box tag so who knows?
I actually always thought (and don't have any concrete info to back this up) that the "standard" rear gear on a 4x4 was a 3.08 and the "standard" rear gear on a 2wd was a 2.73.
And in comparison to your SS, I had an '86 Buick GN that had a 3.42 and I believe a 200?
Please don't take this as arguing; just a learning experience for me at your expense!

But back to the topic at hand:

I believe we are talking about the same thing.
You can see the driver side piece in the third picture (of the door).

Re: FS 83 GMC 1/2 Ton 2WD 8'

Kevin:

No harm no foul, not here or elsewhere, I may not know all of the hookups, I do recall the GN having the 342, as far as the truck I will spin the rear and check it. It is like the SS's for the most part did not have a posi unit, but I think in the last year or two they may have put it on the list. I heard they did not want the trouble with possibly tearing up the rears, even though the 305 was not exactly a powerhouse like the GN.

I sort of recall a 85 4wd with a 305 and 700 that had 73's, but also a blazer with 308's out in CO.

I will check the trim pieces and report. The shop is out the road about 25 miles so I don't go all the time, but I need to check up on everything today.

Trim pieces on Cab

They show the typical dulling of the brushed aluminum.

Kevinr1970, these should be the pieces, the smear on the right is from wiping it with a glove. Do want the corners only or all three?

KEVIN

I will email you the larger picture version, yes they were resized to make the post.

67 Mater

As onelow1ton wants the whole roller the crossmember has to go to him, I will check for another at the shop, just in case I kept the one from the last parts truck.

ol blue

By complete let me know the parts that you want. The lower cradle or tire support, the allthread bolt, and the pivot or hinge piece. THe last one I have to crawl under one to refresh my recollection on how it goes together. I know I have one or two extra cradles, but not sure about all parts.
Thanks for letting me know the details.

Let me check a complete truck, I know I have the cradle, and think I have the rest. Hopefully tonight I can respond to what I have.
