Well today I pulled the PO wheel off it was way to small. I'm trying to replace it with a stock wheel. After I got the old wheel off I placed the new wheel in place and the bottom of the wheel hits the hub where the shift position is located and it is about 3/8 of a inch from being on the spline. Does anybody have pictures of what it should look like when you remove the wheel. I compared it to my 72 C-10 (did not take wheel off) the wheel measures the same. Is there a difference in 71 versus 72? I NEED HELP PLEASE

Can you post pics of what you are talking about so we can see what is going on. I suspect you have a spacer/filler in the column to cover the gap left from the aftermarket wheel.

I will post pictures tomorrow. I removed the spacer from the other wheel. It sounds weird but it seems like the shaft where the steering wheel goes on is to short. I feel like a Dumb A**!!!

Perhaps someone modified the column to work with the aftermarket wheel?

Did you pull the shaft back up when you tried to install the original steering wheel? I just replaced my original one with another one and had to pull the shaft backup since it fell down about 3/8". Maybe I am mis-understanding your question but thats what happened to me.

Here is pictures. So I can pull the shaft back up that seems to be the problem shaft is to far down in the column to catch the splines. OK so here is DA question how do I do that. I'm assuming you just lossen it at u-joint and pull it back....HELP. I find it very hard to drive without a steering wheel.

Let me run this past all your wisdom, due to the body lift could my shaft be to short for the stock sterring wheel?? and if that is the cause could I get a longer u joint or what ever it is called. It looks to be just about at the end of both ends of the one I have.

Mine came right back up, I just pulled it back and it held in place enough time for me to slip the new original steering wheel back on it. This was on my '72 Blazer standard height. I am not sure about your lift and distance it may affect it.

You mentioned a body lift...

Has the steering column been modified at all?
Depending in the amount of body lift, it may or may not be.

If it were me, I'd double check the overlap on the joint just to be sure.

Small body lift, no worries but if it's 3"s you should check it out.
