Someone HELP im locked out! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

so today i was replacing my rockers and put the doors on to check the fit.... everything lined up so i decided to put the door latches on just to make sure the latch didnt move the door out of wack.... needless to say now my passanger door wont open... the latch wont open when i push the button on the door handle.... so i tried to pull it from the inside.... no luck... ive tried evereything and dont know what to do.... can someone please help!!!! there must be a way to get the door open! good news is that the driverside door opens and closes better than new.
by the way the latch that is stuck is a new replacement latch purchase by PO.

For a quick fix, just to get your door back, unbolt the hinges from the cab, and open it suicide style. You will have your door, and then you can figure out whats going on.

i tried to do that and the latch wont release to free the door. even with the hinges unbolted the door is still stuck in the latched position. !

try kicking it from the inside but dont do it from the out side it makes a big dent

Have you tried taking the door panel off and moving the mechanism from inside the door....I have done that before...just pull the rod inside the door...........

i have the door panels off and i have tried pulling the mechanism from the inside but no luck....

i might have to do it like the dukes of hazard and go through the window!

if you have the drivers door panel off take 10 minutes to watch and study the movements of the lock mechanism and compare the passenger lock movements. couple of key things is patience and light, don't force it. in the end you will have learned something: how the door latch operates! good luck.

something may have slipped look at it and use a screwqdriver to pry up while you push the button ive had this happen on newer trucks also look with a little light to see if there is a jammed broken off piece of the lock mechanism.. in all likelyhood it will need to be replaced... also inspect the whole piece around the door and make sure nothing is holding the door shut around the edges

i finally got a chance to work on the door tonight... and i got it open.
i ended up loosening the bolts that hold the strike plate from the inside of the cab... not an easy task! i got the bolts loose enough that the door just popped opened. i looked at the assembly and the strike plate and couldnt see anything wrong with it.. i guess if you didnt have the those unwanted demons your not doing it right!

check the wear pattern on all of the pieces that will tell you whats up. you blame it on gremlins and it will do it again. here is a trick i learned: clean up the latch and striker with layout blueing and check where the dye has been rubbed off and adjust as needed.
