Newbie Here

You guys have a great site here with a lot of infomation. I've been searching your threads all afternoon and have answered most of my questions, BUT, I'm sure to have more!!
My project is a '64 GMC Short wide small back window truck, that I am doing a frame off on for a daily driver for my wife. The truck used to belong to her father, then to her uncle, now us. The GMC is a little different than the Chevy in that it has leaf spring rear suspension instead of coil springs. The plan is to replace all the suspension with the stuff from a '84 Suburban that I parted out recently. Including using the 700r4 tranny behind a 283 that's been rebuilt and bored, now 288cid.
One of my immediate questions is will I have to remove/relocate the E-brake crossmember in order to install the 700R4? The truck had a 3-speed in it when we got it. I knoe that I have to remove the crossmember from the manual tranny. I saved the crossmember from the Surbuban, so I have one to install for the automatic.

Re: Newbie Here

If the GMC is anything like the 64 chevy, you will have to get rid of the e brake crossmember and redo the e brake system.

Welcome! I have a 64 GMC Suburban, so I know what you're talking about with the leaf springs. I have a TH400 in my rig right now, which required a modified crossmember. If you search my past posts for "ebrake" you'll find pictures of the ebrake linkage I have.
