rookie turnaround

Ive been here exactly xx posts (under 25 I think) and I notice a LOT of "new" owners...

wondering how many of these never take off versus die.

No offense to rookies at all. I *AM* one. Im more wondering what the "die off" percentage is of giving up.

Not that I am considering it, just curious...

I havent seen this many "new guy" threads since I bought my WRX in late 2002.

yah, im kinda new but ive owned 3 of these trucks in the last 10 years and only just now got the chance to actually do some of the things ive been dreamin about on all of em. rookies and pros alike, sometimes a project becomes too overwhelming and we give up but that makes for cheaper easier projects for the more ambitious ones to score on

i hope after all ive done i dont lose wind, lol...

It's hard to gauge, but for the most part it seems as though a lot of people stick around, especially if they have a truck as nice as your's. This board seems to support/encourage/inspire more than any board I've ever been a part of. The new guy posts I think in part is a sign of the growing popularity of these trucks. I have owned many different 67-72's since about 10 years ago, and in the last few years, I have been asked to sell my trucks a whole more than I used to. Just random people walking up and saying "That's an awesome truck, do you want to sell it?" or "What year is that? - My grandad/dad/uncle etc. had one similiar, is it for sale?" The ever rising price of what these trucks are selling for are proof of that as well.

Would hate to hear its a fleeting phase for a majority, but for being on here a short time, there are a lot of new people... just wanted to make sure I didnt jump a fad.

No fear of these being a fad. These trucks have are timeless and from the day they came they had a following. Even though they are a little before my time, my dad and a lot of other car guys have told me they never really noticed trucks as being stylish or sporty until this body style came out. This article has been recycled a 100 hundred times on this site, but being a newer member you may not have seen. These trucks are considered near icon status according to this article. Its a good read. Check it out.

I notice most that come on much at all seem to stay.I see guys go when they`ve sold a truck.But,alot of us have more than one and are stck here.I don`t see many guys backing out on these truck projects.When I do do,it`s not from lack off desire or interest.It`s marriage,money,moving,disablity...
All I see is interest growing monthly.

I'm realatively new here. I have had my 67 for a few years, almost sold it because of the rust and problems with it, but decided this fall to tear it down to the frame, now I am almost ready for paint, a couple of rust issues holding me up. I am addicted to these trucks. Money sometimes becomes an issue, and I have to put things on hold, but I wouldn't consider bailing on this project now. I even have plans for another one when this is done. I even got y boss, who is a camero nut, addicted, he bought a 72 short fleet original this winter and went to Nebraska in a blizzard to get it.

I agree. BTW, glad to see you're back, Tim. Computers can be a PITA. I too have noticed a lot of new guys, but I have to remember that though they may be new to this site they may have had one or more of these trucks for years - I had my first one in 1981, a '71 Blazer. My personal opinion is that this site is on the verge of exploding - even in my town, there are so many guys with these trucks, and you know they are always looking for a good source of knowledge and parts - it's just a matter of time, IMO. The old guys will always be here, and to me, they are the heart and soul of this site, the stability of it, if you will. They make it seem a lot more personable. Just my .02.
