3/4 ton drive shaft to 1/2 ton rear???

Guys-
Forgive me, as I know I posted a similiar question a few weeks ago, I can't seem to find it though!!
I just got my 1/2 rear in place. The u-joints from my 3/4 ton shaft are big, the 1/2 yoke on the rear is small. My question is...what u-joint combination do I get??? Or...can the yoke be swapped from the Eaton onto the new 1/2 ton??? Will the caps change over?? Any help would be great, as I have been fighting this swap for the better part of last week.

I think your going to have to go to a 1/2 ton shaft. The front and rear yokes will want a smaller joint that the 3/4 ton shaft. At least thats what it looks like on my kids 3/4 ton and the 1/2 ton shafts that I have. I don't belive they make a joint that has both sizes.

They do make a joint for both sizes. I have a 3/4 ton rear end and a half ton driveshaft. Can't tell ya the part number tho. I just tell them what I have at the parts store.

3/4 ton shaft should be too short for use under 1/2 ton, i have napa part number for that U joint here soemwhere, i just got one myself, it was 37 bucks

Yes they do make a U-joint that will fit right in. I just did thes to my 72 LWB 1/2 ton. I bought the drive shaft from a board member here. I went to the parts house and got all three U-joints right over the counter. Just tell them what you are doing. What I did was took one of the small U- joints and the big u joint with me and told them what I needed, this is not un common, so it is not going to be a problem for you at all. ONE WORD OF ADVICE THOUGH! Don't walk in to autozone and exspect to get what your after, they will not have a clue to what you need, go to a auto parts store that has been in your area for a long time, kind of like a mom and pop place. if you have trouble getting this, you let me know, and I will get you one here and send it to you, for the cost of the u joint and the shipping on it. Let me know OK?

A local drive shaft joint hooked me right up!! The guy didn't even half to look at a parts book. Had the small u-joint cradles as well!! Unfortunately...The driveshaft is now sitting in the back of another truck...awaiting a return trip to the shop to be shortened about 3/4 of an inch...I won the battle, lost the war. Thanks for all the help.
