Post C10 engine rebuild-finished!

It .. is ... A-live! I got my baby back and the surgery made her better than she was before!

Got my inline 6 rebuilt this last Saturday. I posted a link to photos of the tear-down. Now I have photos of the reconstruction. http://homepage.mac.com/elgatoloco/PhotoAlbum6.html

She sounds like I've never heard her, starts oh so much easier, and runs like a brand new truck. We replaced the main bearings, rod bearings, piston rings, put a new fuel pump on, new fuel filter, new points, new condenser, new gaskets & seals, scraped the pistons clean, honed the bores, did a valve job, set the timing and painted the engine. Whew, I think that's all of it.

I assume that's the original carburetor. Looks like a 2G. Did you rebuild that?

The carb's not original. It is a Rochester single-barrel, though I'm working on getting a 2-barrel for it. What I really need is an original air cleaner for this one. What I've on there is an old Rochester cleaner off an old 50's model car. Couldn't find a cleaner at the junkyard that would work.

If anyone's got a cleaner that would fit and wants to get rid of it, let me know what you want for it.

The next project is to replace the manual-shift steering column with a automatic one I bought off a guy. Make it a column-shift auto, hook in the backup lights that are currently disabled due to a DSOM rigged floor shifter and it's fun times ahead. Plus, I'll be legal and inspected and all that.

That's an old monojet? Wow.

You know if you want to move to a 2G it wouldn't be all that tough. You can find them easy (at least I can here). They usually get tossed for the ever-popular performer 4bbl, and I think they're easier to get cleaner covers for too.

Nice work. Good luck.

How much did the rebuild cost you? I am gutting my inline in a few weeks, to be replaced with a 350. But was just curious how much it did cost to do all that work?

The rebuild cost me two Saturday's, one Sunday and about $350 in parts. I don't even want to think what a shop would have cost to do what we did.
