Urethane paint like imron seems to stand up pretty well to rock pits, I used it on 2 of my Peterbilts which see lots of miles on crappy roads, and the fenders are always getting dinged up from underneath because nobody makes a liner for the 359 fenders. The Urethane flexes and is somewhat pliable when cured, sorta like hard rubber. It will pit, but doesn't flake like enamel does.
