Drip Rail Chrome Trim? Opinions? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have decided to do the top of my 72 white, but not in the conventional way with the pillars and everything. I will be doing from the drip rail up and back, and stopping on the factory 2-tone trim at the back of the cab, sort of like a painted shiny vinyl top. My question is, I've seen the drip rail chrome that you buy, but how does it work, and is it worth the effort (If I recall it was kind of expensive). It looks like it snaps on or something, or stays with an adhesive but I can't tell. Any help would be great, thanks!

That trim was a factory option. Only seen it on one truck though.

I personally dont think it does anything for a truck.

And expensive.

mine has the stainless drip rail trim and the stainless trim across the back below the window, is this a pic of what you are looking for ??

I like it on a`67-style white top.It completes the two-tone trim that wraps the cab back.But,I would only use it on a truck that sit`s in a garage and rust-out isn`t a concern.I can image how a truck would have ended up that originally had it in that vulnerable area.I have a N.O.S. package and not sure whether to ever use it or not.

fatboys69, it is actually the trim that covers the actual drip rail behind the door then wraps over and forward above the windshield. Nice truck none-the-less.

All the factory build books I've seen say this drip rail trim was discontinued? Is it on a golve box build sheet? Just one more thing to hold moisture and rust~~!

It is a pain to put in placeif not done correctly it will destroy your paint putting it on, but it looks great once it is on. I do not think I have seen any that was put on as advertised and still in place. The reason it was discontinued from the factory was beause it would not stay on. The few sets of original I have seen had screws placed in them to hold it on. Looks great but not worth the trouble.

I am for sure putting it on mine, but they are very dificult to install, so I am going to get the Cheynne Super man to do for me like this one.

I just installed this trim on my '72 Super. To put it mildly, it was a royal PITA. I don't know if the GM trim was that much better, but you have to have the patience of a saint to install the repro parts.

I have a '69 CST 396 truck that had dealer installed. It is held on by the same rosette rivets that hold the VIN tags on. I personally love the look it, and I plan to put it on my hugger and white '69 C/10. Here are few shots of it. The trim is on this truck very snugly with use of the the rivets.

Hmmmm. I don't like the fact that it's hard to install or the fact that it costs near $200 when all is said and done (Or have I been looking in expensive places??) but I REALLY like the look of it on there!

It doesn't show up well in hte photo but it has the drip rail trim also. Not a very good pic to show it.

LMC carries them for $99.99. They have a set of retainers for round $60 that somehow clip on, but I'm not sold on those. I think I'm going to install mine like the dealer did with some small rivets in the same locations as they did.

I know after speaking with Jerry Brown of Truck Shop in Tenn, that he actually uses a 2 part epoxy and does not worry about the clip system as I does not fit for crap hence the use of screws or rivets. I "tried" to install it on my 71 super because it looks good- makes the cab look finished- but even following the write-up that Golden State did when Daulton still owned it (parts were from him as well) I could not get it to stay on. Either the top was on and the bottom would pop out or the bottom was on and the top would pop out. The after market pieces are made a little over sized to accomodate the differences in cabs. Also if the drip rails on your cab are not perfect you are wasting your time. Mine were not tweaked, bent or otherwise mis-shapen and they still did not fit right. These pieces also bend very easily and they fly across the shop equally well, I ended up having the rail repainted because of these insane pieces of crap, so be warned.
