Turn signal repair
Well, I finally convinced myself to tear into my steering column and fix my turn signal switch. I've been putting it off, due to my luck with all things electrical, but finally had enough. The canceling cam has never worked and lately since I added LED signals and tails, the driver's side wouldn't blink consistently with the brakes applied. After switching sides with the light units, I was convinced it was in the blinker switch.
Anyway, NAPA had the replacement switch in stock ($58...) so what the hell. Here's a couple of pics of the removal. Can't imagine why it wasn't working..? ![]() ![]() ![]() The install went without a hitch and it just worked. The only slight issue was getting the wiring snaked through everything and tucked away. A lot smoother job than I had anticipated. Even my horn still works...

WOW! They are proud of that switch, huh! In the long run you will probably be glad you went with a quality part though.... I need to do that too. Mine still works but I know it is cracked so could quit at any time. Good job. LockDoc

It was a little pricey, but was all there and the hazard switch was a better design that screwed on after the switch was installed. It looks and operates like a modern type hazard switch.

your springs are missing, that is why they wouldn't cancel. However, if the left one was acting like you say, it was time for a new switch.
If you look real close, the piece that the lever mounts on was cracked on your old one... My napa guy was looking up the switch (tilt, $62 i think... my discounted cost) and asked what was wrong with mine... I told him that piece was broken, he sold be that piece of plastic for 11 bucks. Even better than savin 50 bucks, I didn't have to remove the assembly from the column, which as you well know now... can be a real PITA. It's nice havin a good parts guy who knows his stuff. |

Yeah, I found a piece of the broken spring in there when I took it apart. Given as nasty as mine was, I think I'd want to spend the extra money. Of course, it'll probably look the same as the old one in a month... lol.
