1970 C-50 Service Manual Question

Hi Guys, I found some old GMC service manuals on Ebay. I have a 1970 GMC 5500 I am restoring. Would a 1969 manual/truck be basicaly the same as far as buying a 1969 service manual?

Thanks

Re: 1970 C-50 Service Manual Question

I hate to answer you this way, but maybe! From 1967 to 1969, Chevy and GMC medium duty trucks were quite different. Chevy used a modified version of the '67-'72 pickup truck cab on their C-50/60/65 mediums. GMC, on the other hand used the heavy duty cab on their E-4500/5500/6500 medium duties, along with their V-6 engines. In late 1969, GMC dropped their 'E' series mediums, and started selling the Chevy design medium with a different grill (they also offered the V-6 in them as an option). So, if you can find a 1969 GMC 'C' series manual it should work for you, but the 'E' series manual would probably not be too useful.

Re: 1970 C-50 Service Manual Question

Wow. Thank you Bob.B. I had no idea. I better wait for a 1970 manual to come up on Ebay. I'm glad I didn't buy the 69 service manual that looked like it was going cheap. You saved me some money. Thanks

Re: 1970 C-50 Service Manual Question

Happy to help. For the record, the quickest way to tell a '67-'69 GMC E series from a '67-'72 Chevy C-50/60/65 or a '69-'72 GMC C-5500/6000/6500 is the hood: The E series hood opens from the sides, the C series has the usual front opening hood.
