Dana 60 Lockers???

Ok I have found 4 different lockers for a Dana 60 rear axle, Trac-Loc, Power-Lok, Detroit, and Lock-Right. Now my question is What is the difference between these lockers? and What locker would be the best to get? Thanks

Your first two are actually not lockers at all but are clutch type limited slip differentials. The Tracloc being the Ford trade name for their clutch type differential. The Power Lock is the Dana trade name for their clutched differential. The power lock dana 60's are probably more suited to street driving that the actual ratcheting locker units such as the detroit locker. I like my detroit locker a lot but it can be noisy at times and a little squirly around wet corners. Nothing tracks straighter in a straight line though except a spool. Lock right units are aftermarket drop in units and are really only suited to off road conditions. Theyre no where near as strong as a detroit locker or a power lock for that matter.

I'd say go with a power lock or a trac loc unit. They have massive 4 spider differentials and are plenty strong . make sure you get a 30 spline unit. Theres a lot of 35 spline units out there that wont work with your axles.

One more question what is a Detroit Soft Locker? Is it any different than a regular Detroit locker? Thanks

I had a soft locker in a 4.56 geared 9 inch under a 70 cougar once. It didnt "click" as much as a normal detroit locker does around corners. Didnt really excite me all that much to tell you the truth. I ended up selling that center section off and buying a 4.10 geared trac loc unit to replace it. Clutched differentials are a lot nicer to drive on the street IMHO. I mean theres always the bigger, better, badder factor but if you have to drive something all the time its sometimes better to go with the comfort and noise level considerations. I say this as I am about to install a healthy solid lifter cam .

The Dana Powr-Loc is what the Dana 60s came with from the factory, I have one it was called the "max traction rear end". I like it, they can be rebuilt, but I don't think they are being built by dana/spicer any more. There's another company making new ones, I'll try and remember who.
