this is gonna sound dumb but why are you changing back. but there really shouldnt be a problem just drain it out and refill with conventional . synthetic is a far superior lubricant imo it cant be beat as long as its a good synthetic and the motor isnt totally wore out.

Just drain out the old & refill with the new. All most all syn's and dinos mix with no problems. Why are you switching back?

From what little I know, the name synthetic is misleading. It's made from the same stuff (comes outta the same hole in the ground) and "dino-juice" but it's just refined and processed more. If it were me, I'd be worried about whether or not going back and forth between the 2 over and over, the detergents and additives that would be left over might react with each other and create sludge.

actually what I've heard is that most synthetics are not chemically made (generally cheaper synthtiics) but Mobil1, Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple are all the real deal. I use Mobil 1. Synthetics do protect much better.

how do they protect better? to me most people dont use oil long enough or hard enough to brake it down. so why bother? its the particals that get into the oil that cause the wear.

just change your oil every 3k and dont worry about spending the extra $ on the fancy stuff. i have been told that Synthetics make the engine run cooler, but i dont know for sure. that may be the olny benifit that i see..

if you want better protection, build a better filter! or put 2 on your truck

I thought that synthetics would cause gaskets to leak on the engine if it had been run on regular oil for a long time. Something like the syn. oil cleans up all the sludge that was making the gaskets not leak.

I use 10w30 Valvoline in my truck, a Wix filter and i change it every 3k. IMO, as long as you use good quality oils and filters, your engine should last a long time. Isn't synthetic like $5 a quart anyway?

10w30 Pennzoiland a Mobil 1 filter are the way to go imo. If you've never seen the difference in filters cut a fram and a mobil1 or wix open and see if you can see the difference. Cheap filter the paper is creased, good filter paper is rolled. Crease is a good spot for dirt to build up and eventually tear the paper, releasing all the junk that you've filtered back into the engine. Defeats the purpose.

I guess that's kind of a long way to go to say stick with the less expensive oil, but don't shortcut on the filter.

Just my opinion.

I first run full synthertic valvoline 10W30 in my 2000 Neon and found a slight increase in power and fuel economy, about 3-4 mpg. After that I put it in my lady's 99 Olds Alero and had the same results. With that discover the 402 had to have synthetic too. I haven't run an oil anlysis on my vehicles yet but the mechanic at work run oil anlysis on convention valvoline oil in his F@RD 302 F150 @ 3000 miles and it showed more wear than synthetic oil at 7000 miles. The analysis had the recommendation to increase change intervals to 10000 miles. I don't know if I could go 10000 miles but a quality synthetic oil is the way to go. There is a BIG difference and the cost is worth the added protection IMO.

I have also heard that synthetic oils will tend to create leaks, I do believe that it will in an tired old dirty engine and I would recommend not changing to synthetic in that case. Otherwise change to synthetic and never look back.

Filters are important, FRAM has a big name but a poor filter. Stick with AC Delco filters or another quality filter, stay away from FRAM.

Ranger, from what I've been told,A/C Delco is just a high dollar Fram as far as quality goes. Was I misinformed?

I have seen cut-aways of both and they were very different, but that was a few years back.(1994, when my folks bought a new truck) They may have changed designs since then and I wouldn't be suprised, they are always trying to cut production cost. So I wouldn't say you were misinformed I may be stuck in ol'times. My dad always says stick with AC delco and you won't go wrong.

Synthetic fluids work better in almost every way, in almost every applications. So well that you can't break in a new motor with synthetic. They DO run cooler, in oil, tranny fluid, gear lube, everything. The Chevy mechanic next door to me swears by it, they have even measured the temp drop b/t them and it's significant. Crack open 2 engines that, all other things being equal, use dino and syn. and you will see a HUGE difference. They can even add a couple of ponies sometimes.

If you go back to dino oil, if you have tiny oil leaks, they may stop. Only downfall of synthetics is that they find leaks really well.

Notice what almost EVERY race team out there uses: synthetic. Notice what's standard on most premium cars, including vettes synthetic.

good enough for me, I'll spend the dough.

I've heard that both K&B and the Mobil 1 filters are good, and that FRAM filters are crap. Personally I use AC Delco.
