Re: Factory A/C or aftermarket.....
Andy, this is getting off topic but I think what you are experiencing has to do with how much air is blowing over your condenser in front of the radiator. If you sit at idle in your driveway and spray water on the condenser, I believe the 134a will cool at idle just as good as R12. The problem, how do we get there when we are idling in traffic. You need a stronger gan and more than likely a bigger condenser.

Re: Factory A/C or aftermarket.....
The condensor is as big as it can be for the area in which it sit's. It was also ordered for 134-A. I have a little electric fan hooked to the A/C switch so it comes on with the A/C. I think it's just part of the 134-A cooling effectness.
I agree a bigger condensor would do the trick but the space is limited on how big you can go.

Re: Factory A/C or aftermarket.....
I always thought someone should make one with a third row, similar to radiators.
For the person who started the thread, the 134a vs R12 issue applies whether you go aftermarket or original. I would stay R12. |

Re: Factory A/C or aftermarket.....
134-A is the only way to go. I wouldn't want to have the R-12 inless it's a orignal car or truck that already had it in it. The price is doubled for the R-12.

I did the vintage air and love the way it cleaned up under my hood. There are pics at the link below.

Andy:
Is that the stock evaporator?? If not how did you end the 2nd smaller tube on the top end of the evaportor?? Did the fitting have to be changed to match up with the new Accumulator?? |

Re: Factory A/C or aftermarket.....
I bought a kit locally from Lucky's Rod & Custom in Ennis, Tx. The installation went very smooth. I have yet to use it, since the truck's not complete yet. But it looks like it'll work just fine. Mine was a factory air truck, and just to replace the missing/broken pcs (w/new pcs) would have cost me more than the aftermarket kit. And as a bonus, I now have a much cleaner looking firewall. And a lot more room in the engine compartment.
