Re: 396 Pics

Love the look of your 396! Even has an AC/Delco filter. Can even see the M21 in the background.

What are your cam specs? I figured with the roller-rockers you have to be running something.

Re: 396 Pics

Thanks guys for all the compliments. This thing has been a long time in the making. Now that the engine is together, i need to get my a$$ in gear and put my truck back together.

lyrikz, Good eye on the spark plugs! You guys are sharp! Those old plugs have seen a few coats of engine paint thru the years. I just had to see how the red plug wires looked on an orange engine so i left the old plugs in so i could mock up the wires. I think a set of black wires would look better.

Specs: .060 over 396, Speed pro pistons, GMPP cam 540 lift I/E 228I/238E duration, ARP rod bolts, Comp Magnum double roller chain, Comp springs, Comp roller tip rockers, Edelbrock RPM intake.

I agree, black or blue wires would be sick. What size carb are you running on her?

Re: 396 Pics

NF65Fleetsidebox , The carb on the engine now is a new 850 Holley i've had sitting around in the box for a few years. I've got a 750 Holley on my Camaro i can snag if the 850 is to much.

68c10owner, I edited my previous post and added the specs. I must have been editing when you posted.

Re: 396 Pics

Nice specs.... what size valves and what do you figure the CR is? I like the idea of a 396, still has the big block look (means business), but doesn't have the huge displacement of some current BBs where I'd have to own my own refinery.

Re: 396 Pics

Greg, Valves are 2.19/1.88 and compression ratio is 9.5:1 by my calculations. My machinist said it is closer to 10.0:1.

Re: 396 Pics

I have a 750 on my 454 and so far it feels just right...although my motor is stock other than intake and headers. You on the other hand Im sure with your modifications and cam that an 850 will be fine with a little tuning
