Vortec vs Non-Vortec
My question is if you have 2 same engines with the same stats and driver would you get better MPG out of the Vortec?

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
Yes, a little better. Vortec heads make the fuel burn a little bit more completely meaning better milege.

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
I would also say yes. The design of the combustion chamber and intake runner ports make fuel atomize better making a more complete burn.

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
Well I did some searching around for other long blocks last night and it was going to cost $1500 more to get a Non-Vortec engine the same HP as the Vortec one I was already going with.
How much of a PITA is the center bolt valve covers?

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
unless you are running a radical valvetrain and need more clearance -- but if thats not the case, they seal far better than the old school 4 bolt mess

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
The difference would be minor, but I'd give the nod to the Vortecs.
Valve covers are easy - the cheap ones are a bear to get the gaskets on. Pace Performance and lots of folks on eBay sell factory take-offs for $15-20. |

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec

Re: Vortec vs Non-Vortec
Well in the experience I had comparing a Vortec to non Vortec, same style 3/4ton GMC 2wd non Vortec 350 1995 model and a 2000 Classic body style (looks just like the 95 model) 350 Vortec 2wd 3/4 ton same gears same trans as the 95 but it got worse gas mileage than the 95 non Vortec.
