Re: taking my 305 out of my truck!!
its not that hard the trick of it is to try and do things systematically so you do things in order
first drain the coolant disconnect the battery remove the radiator and hoses remove air conditioning hoses remove power steering pump and lay to side disconnect smog stuff if any remove alternator and belts lay wiring to side remove bolts that old exhaust manifolds to heads disconnect plug wires and remove distributor disconnect fuel line drop inspection pan and starter remove the motor mount bolts loosen / remove the six motor to trans bolts remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts yank motor out using a pry bar and hoist install is reverse of removal someone reasonably mechanically inclined could do this over a weekend

Re: taking my 305 out of my truck!!
Easy as pie.Im goin to be re-installing the engine in my truck this coming week.It took me less than 2 hours to yank it out, lets see how long it takes to put back in lol.I have done a complete swap in a 85 Caballero in less than 8 hours. That was including the 2 hours spent trying to get the "Direct fit" headers to fit right

Re: taking my 305 out of my truck!!
i have mostly everything you said disconnected, i am pretty good mechanically and my buddy did it with his 74 nova, i was mainly worried about how i get to all the bolts that hook from the transmission to the block and how to disconnect the flywheel from the clutch, i couldnt really get a picture that looked good

Re: taking my 305 out of my truck!!
ive never done a standard trans without removing the trans first and removing the motor with the bell housing then once out of the car doing the clutch and all

i agree...it is genrally easier to separate the bellhousing after you pull the motor....with automatic trannys it is easier to separate the tranny and motor after its out also....dunno if you can pull motor and tranny out with a manual tranny though.
