turbo 400 guru's need help
My transmission yesterday started making the whinning noise, sounded like it was coming from the distributor at first. Since i could not locate the actual problem, I drove it around the block, and now i'm hearing grinding, and hesitation in the transmission. I did have a leak (small), but I'm reluctant to warm the engine and transmission up to check the level because of the whinning noise.

Does the fluid smell burnt? How many miles on it? I'd say it's probably time to drop the pan and look for metal shavings.

Re: turbo 400 guru's need help
x2, i think it would be a good idea to atleast do a fluid/filter change on it. i think a filter is only like $9 and some change. it will also require 5 quarts of fluid. but, it may also have a major problem that may require a rebuild.

Could be the front pump, if it is shifting erratic and doing strange things, the pump could be a big part or all of the problem. Your converter could have broke and now you have something caught in the pump too, seen that a couple times. If the noise changes pitch with engine RPM as opposed to vehicle mph, chances are its in the pump or related parts.

The filter and fluid were just changed les than 1000 miles ago. I had a slight leak but I worried I ran it down to much.
