venting, auto parts stores
yesterday I was looking for a carb kit for my truck a 69 1/2 ton with a 292 and single barrel holley replacement carb. I work at oreilly's and had found the kit but I didn't have the truck running yet to see if I needed it. I decided I did so I called my store and got our assistant manager. I told him that I needed this carb kit and he asked what were the casting #'s . I told him that there were no #'s on the carb but that it is listed as a replacement carb for my truck in the book. just look it up by application and it's right there. it's a model 1940. so then he looks some more and comes back saying he can't find an R-1940. I said I know cause that's a model number, the closest thing you might find is an h-1940 or h-1 1940. so he looks a little more and again I tell him to grab the book and look it up in the application section as a holley replacement. he comes back again with nothing. just a sec lemme try something else he says. keep in mind that I have already looked this up in the computer and it only lists a rochester carb not the holley. so I hear him typing and asking me all the stupid questions that the computer asks. then he comes back and says oh ya found it. $5.5x be here this afternoon. ok I'll believe him. I get all the way down there and guess what he got me the rochester kit. I told him 3 times that it was a holley and gave him everything but the page it was on and the part #. this guy is the assistant manager!!!!!! so I looked it back up and orderd the correct one within 30 seconds. What an idiot!!!!!!!! when I looked on the computer is says right there that the kit he ordered was for a rochester!! but the all knowing Jim is always right!!!!!!!!!! and the younger salesperson that is telling him EXACTLY where to look is wrong yet I have been through this problem before and have the carb sitting in front of me. MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at least I got the correct one on the way and I will be sure to ask for Jim when I call to see if the CORRECT one is there and I will be sure to tell him he ordered a ROCHESTER kit and I said HOLLEY and it was right where I told him it was!!!!!!
ok, im done for now. Nathan

texnician01, I have a couple carbs that are in pretty good shape. They are the rochcestor, but they worked well when I took them off. Some of them are rebuilds. I think they come from napa. If you would just like to buy one, i have plenty and im not using any of them now. Thanks JT

I dunno, napa wants 110 plus shipping. Is 55 or 50 plus shipping a horrible deal. Let me know if thats to high as i dont need them anymore, at least not 3 of them.

"People rise to the level of their incompetence"
My Dad, who is 79, once told me this very thing. At the time, I didn't doubt him, but had not seen the living proof of it that he had seen in his work life.
Since then, my employer of 27 years has shut down my department, laid off buttloads of folks (seen a high of 1680 people dwindle down to 200), and so forth. The motto of our department was this: "We, the willing, led by the Unknowing, have been doing so much for so long with so little, that we are now able to do anything, with NOTHING!" I rose up through the ranks and became their supervisor, but walked a fine line between the union and my managers.....knowing all the time that unless my MEN did the job, it would not get done. My managers, ever younger and ever less experienced, could not understand that the MEN who did the job actually knew more about it than THEY did. "They" in this case, represents my managers. And now, you know why HE is the assistant manager, and you are not. Somebody has to do the work....and it is you. You are the MAN!
