81-87 door panel questions
in my quest to make my truck seem less junky i decided to upgrade my interior to grey so thanks to a bunch of people here ive been amassing parts for this thing. Here is the dilema
i put my right side door panel together as i got it stripped and bought different pieces from different guys to make a whole set Anyway the custom deluxe panels i had on there have none of the chrome inserts around the door handle but they were slightly trimmed to make it fit.. they worked on the original doors as well as the aftermarkets i threw on there.. So i install the door panel and now it seems that i cant get the chrome cups on as the door handle sits in there funny... im wondering my door cups have the two screw holes level with each other and the ones that appear to go on my door are kinda offset.. I tried installing boththe right and left cup but neither fits im going to post pics.. do i have the wrong cups or do you think the door handles interior are wrong?

Re: 81-87 door panel questions
Bob, you did a great job cleaning those panels up...awesome! What method did you use to clean them?
As far as the cups, I can't be much help. The actual cups you have are not original to the panels I sold you...but they are the same. I sent you the nicest pair I had, but rest assured, they are identical to the original ones that were on those panels (I just went to the garage and verified).

Re: 81-87 door panel questions
for cleaning what i did was i used dawn dish liquid with a textured side of a sponge for cleaning dishes and washed it with lukewarm water in the kitchen sink.. i tried not to use too much pressure on it and they came out pretty well.. most of the crud on there was just dust and shop dirt.. there are some small yellow specks on them but not enough that i really give a hoot.. the truck is being restored to be a work horse /daily driver not to show quality so im not as particular with the finish on the parts... i used the same procedure with the armrests and that worked out well too.. one had a blackish mark and i used this adhesieve remover pad that my wife has for use on skin ( she has a urostomy and it removes the leftover adhesieve tape from her skin) and the mark is gone
The cups you sold me are excellent condition and are show quality I just couldnt remember ( im getting old an senile) if the 86 had offset screws in the cups as i kinda remember seeing cups like that, and that is what it appears was on there at one time.. All in all im tickled to death with the parts you sold me they were better than described I wish you had more grey parts id be buying more stuff from ya lol

Re: 81-87 door panel questions
The door handle appears to have a bend in it and I think 81-87 were all thinner and straight 77-80 are a little thicker and have the bend in them. probably why the cup won't work Imo.... Hope that helps. Mike

Re: 81-87 door panel questions
its funny you mention that as i was thinking the doors i have were off a one time state truck and i was wondering if the interior handles were wrong for my application..

Re: 81-87 door panel questions
There are 3 types of handles, 73-76 think with a curver, 77-80 fat with a curve and 81-87 thin without a curve...
77-80 version: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/me...tegory_Code=7T 81-87(91) version: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/me...tegory_Code=7T
