You can buy the replacement tape to put on the moldings, if you will look at an original you will see that it too is just tape over the black molding- tape by the way is 24.95 and is enough to do all the lower moldings, per catalog Classic Muscle from Modern Chevrolet. I bought a set of black moldings several months ago and used the tape to make them the correct woodgrain., So yes you can use those moldings and you can also use the tailgate with your trim band an no one would ever know unless they pulled the trim.

Thanks...I feel very lucky to have found this bed and the price seemed to be very fair. What are the odds that the guy who is doing the retoration of your truck would just happen to have a LWB take off just setting in his garage for the last 36 years?
