Should I fix it up?

Right now I drive a 91 Talon TSi AWD and its a fun car, but very unreliable.

We have my grandpas old 82 Scottsdale in a garage that I was thinking about fixing up.
We would have to pretty much replace everything on it, fender doors..all that stuff cause it is rusted and dented i guess.

I want to paint the body black, and make it kind of a sleeper pickup, and rebuild a 350 for performance, or we could rebuild the 6.2 litre diesel that is in there now..

Would it cost a lot to pretty much rebuild the whole pickup, my dad was saying there is a place where he can get panels for 700-800 dollars

Do you guys think i shoudl spend my money this summer on redoing the pickup, or saving up for something else?

|EDIT| The 350 is a 4 bolt main

Black is good! Ok, so I'm just a LITTLE biased.... Go for the 350, the 6.2 Diesels were not so great... no offence to the junk diesel lovers!

Welcome to the board.
First you should ask is what kinda driving will you be doing in the future? Will this your primary transportation? How much money are you really prepared to spend? A restoration takes time and money. As for me ditch, the car and build the truck.
Any inspiration?

Yes, that pickup is very nice.

I would be fixing it up for going to school, probably not that nice, but good enough to get around, then complete it after school.

I am going to WyoTech and was planning on doing it up over the summer because I am sure I will have plenty of time.

It was just a thought that crossed my mind because I like the way chevrolets were in the 80s. It would be nice if the pickup were 4x4, so I am not sure if I would wanna rebuild it, or look for something used.

if you rebuild it, your truck will mean more to you than that car anyday. i think you should go for it if you are willing to spend the time and money. you wont regret it in the end.

They give you the option of having your own stuff to work on, or using their vehicles.

I am going for the main automotive course, and then high performance engine and chassis fabrication..so there isn't much I could do to the pickup besides maybe an engine while there.....unless i got some friends there in the collision and refinishing parts

Body panels are cheap. Fenders can be has for about $90 each.

If the truck were free, I'd get it. If not, I'd pass on it. You never know what else you may find.

Well it is free, we have it in my uncles shed and its been sitting there for a few years.....I can't remember the last year it ran.

It was my grandpas and I believe he bought it new, then it was my dads,,,so I was thinking it owuld be kinda cool if I kept it and rebuilt it....my dad said it would be 7-800 for all new panels.

Well, I wouldnt spend that much on it. Id just get it running real good and keep it as a work truck. Just something to use around the house....or make it a beat up sleeper
