my truck is a mutt
just started looking my new buy over, it has 2 vins. one says its an 81 2wd 250L6, the other says it is an 85 2wd 305, but it is a 4x4 truck. i think somebody took the body off and put it on a different frame...PO told me the truck was an 80 which i know is wrong but...this thing is def a mutt, both vns say its a chevy but it has a gmc steering wheel and tailgate also

Re: my truck is a mutt
as long as one of the vins matches the title and reggie youre ok i have had and made several of these kinda trucks lol
i would get rid of the extra vins tho as if John E Law starts checking the truck and they tell you one of the trucks that was morphed into one was stolen

Re: my truck is a mutt
no title, dont know what they registered it with...im assuming the one on top of the dash, because thats what is on the bill of sale
looks like they punt on an 81 cab and reused the 85 dash and welded in the spot for the seat to mount, used the 85 front clip and body(obvious from the headlights and auxilary fuel tank setup) and put it all on a 1980 3/4 ton frame

Re: my truck is a mutt
I know how you feel! Mine rolled off the factory floor in 1979 as a 2wd diesel. Now it 4x4 gas-guzzler with a engine out of a 76 firebird. Wait until you have to go looking for parts. That's when the fun really begins!!

Re: my truck is a mutt
My 79 (pic below) is titled and registered as a K20 - 1979 4 Wheel drive 3/4 ton truck. Everyone here (forum) knows GM didn't manufacture any shortbed 3/4 tons in 79, and neither did I until I found this site (site is awesome with info, experience, and knowledge), so my truck is a mutt too. A previous owner (unknown) did a good job of using a half ton frame and bed to make this awesome shortbed 4x4, equipped with poly bushings throughout, 350/350, 8 lug Dana 44 and 14 bolt combo.
