what is the timing specs. for a 1982 GMC 5.0 4bbl...thanks

My 1983 sticker says 4 degrees, idle speed 500 rpm in D, fast idle at 1600.
Haynes manual for 1982 says look at the sticker. For more info, read Billla's informative ignition timing FAQ.

If everything is stock....go with the sticker.
That would have a distributor that is calibrated for "ported" vacuum advance. The 4 degree setting is the factory specification. Even though there is not supposed to be any vacuum to the distributor at idle, (in a ported configuration) I would still disconnect it and plug the line when setting the timing. 8-12 is for distributors calibrated for "full" manifold vacuum.
