Anyone use Inline tube?
Hello everybody, I have bought a set of brake lines from inline tube and I am having problems getting them hooked up to the prop and front end. Since they did not come with any instructions for my truck I am lost.
I have a 70 Gmc. 2wd 1/2 ton. I converted it to 5 lug using the suspension parts from a 71. Anyone with any experience in this please help. I have got a freshly painted truck, A room full of new parts, and little crap like this is holding my up. Very Frustrating!! thanks everyone for reading. Without this site I would have already quit a long time ago. steve w.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I have their catalog. Seems like what they have is more related to restoration than modification. I don't remember an offering being (like) 70 1/2-ton SWB, V-8 (SB) with disc brakes. In '70, the brakes were drum. So, their hard parts will be for drum brakes (in my opinion).
Give 'em a call. I'm sure they will be glad to assist you. I'm gonna be ordering the emergency brake cables for my truck.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I have called them a couple of times. I got the feeling that I was bothering the guy. I'm not on here to talk bad about the company. I just didn't get anywhere talking to them. I'm one of those people that needs a picture and I can put anything together, but a guy telling me that everything I ordered should go together great is not alot of help. Well I've tried and something is not right. So pictures would be great.
thanks steve

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
The guy at Inline does have an easily annoyed way of coming across whenyou ask something out of the ordinary. The lines I`ve bought amazed me at how easily the screwed right in perfectly.I needed something special and he told me they just make factory spec.I asked,"What about street rods?"He said I was on my own. This was a brake hose that needed to be longer than stock.I gave him the measurement and what ends I needed and they made it.
How did you order your`s?Over the phone? Can you order online? If you did, what year did you request or did you specify exactly what you were doing??Do you know for sure that the brakelines are the same for drums and discs?I would highly doubt it.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I ordered 71 brake lines for my 68, and got the same type of "you're on your own" response. However the stuff I got from them was all perfect, and complete.
I also knew I would be OK since I went to 71-2 spindles, prop. valve, master cylinder, rear lines, etc... I mean.... how could it not have worked??? What all did you change over on your GMC? Last edited by Jim_PA; 11-14-2007 at 10:01 PM. |

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I bought a new pair of brake lines for my 68 and it fit perfectly. Got the same kind of response when I asked about custom stuff to.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I called in my order. I told them what I had done. I switched out the a-arms and everything. They looked the same but mine were rusty. So I just painted the 71 parts and then installed it all. I had no problem with the rearend lines, and the line that goes along the frame.
Im having problems with the pretty much all of the front end. Just hate to pay that much for a set of lines and then get a "well you should know how it goes together" steve

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
Let me know what you bought. The drum setups go behind the front cradle and the disk brake 71-72 goes in front. The brake lines for the prop valve are different too.
I did a disk conversion on my 69 using lines from "The Right Stuff Detailing" in Columbus, Ohio. Everything fit great. If you are doing a disk conversion, you need to have the hard line brackets mounted on the front of the cradle. I cut my drum brake brackets off the rear of the cradle and bent them like factory ones and drilled holes and mounted them. If you are doing a conversion it will look like this. |

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I bought my prop valve from inline. It is different from yours. I did some looking on their website and I'm gonna try something with the parts I have and I'll have to see. It will be the weekend at the earliest that I can try it out.
Does anyone know if I can pick up those brass unions at a parts or hardware store? Or are they a inline tube special part? I have missplaced mine. Another question. What is the purpose of the cable goin from the engine thru the loop in the frame in one picture you have? thanks for the replys everyone.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I bought mine from LMC. I'm pretty sure Inline makes them. I got the lines for a 69 w/power brakes thinking about a future upgrade and wound up having to bend the front line to mate to the prop valve and the rear line to mate to a union and a "J" shaped extension to the prop valve.
The front kit was 2.5 drop kit from CPP and the hoses bolted right up. Where are you in NEA. Hi from Jonesboro. ![]() Last edited by 71tahoe; 11-15-2007 at 06:44 PM. |

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
The brass unions are available at most parts houses, look for inverted flare fittings. I know that Autozone and Napa have them.

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I know that The Right Stuff will bend up custom lines in anything from 1/8 to 1/2in. tube. If you ever call and they say they dont do custom lines, let me know who you talked to you and I'll do somethin about it. lol

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
The cable in the picture is from a recall/factory item that was used to prevent the throttle from sticking if the motor mount failed. They had issues with the motor mount braking and the throttle getting stuck. The replacement motor mounts are more locking than they were originally. This setup was used on other GM cars too. The 71 started the cable throttle.
The NAPA brass unions are weatherhead. The Right Stuff and others sometimes us an aftermarket prop valve and lines that fit that prop valve. You may want to return their lines and ask for the lines with factory bends?? You could use the 71-72 setup and it will look like mine and factory. This might not be an issue depending on the type of restoration you are doing. |

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
I had problems with my master to prop valve lines from inline. I figured it was because I did not know what year master cyl/prop valve I had purchased at the swap meet. I ended up bending/flaring my own.
I also had problems with their rubber lines to the caliper on my 72 C20. The lines were to short so I could not turn without stretching the lines. Inline said that C10 and C20 were the same. I found out that C20 were actually longer. I now have extra C10 lines since Inline would not refund. The rest of the lines were excellent! |

Re: Anyone use Inline tube?
The set-up that I am running is a '70 c-20 frame with a '91 c-20 front crossmember with both upper and lower control arms from the '91. I bought my SS lines from inline tube and they worked great. But here is the catch, you need to tell them what you want. I used the rear lines for the '70 and the front for the '71-'72 disc. If that is the type that you are using, then that should be the end of what you need for the hard lines. You will need to use the flex lines for the appropriate year calipers and hard point attachments. I have a '85 1500 so I had a reference for the mounting points thru the frame. There were already two holes in the frame in the general location so I modified the hard lines to that point. The flex lines are for the '91 I did ask them for a stainless 3/8 fuel line for a suburban and they said one didn't exsist yet. But if I wanted to send them a pattern they would make one for me. Good luck with it, Lane |

I got my lines from FINELINES, disc brake conversion kit. Like you guys, no instructions came with the kit. I have a bunch of lines and not sure how to plumb them. My truck is a 69 so if my new lines dont match my old ones, how do I know what goes where? |
