Drive Shaft
Yes I am a noob,I bought a 62 c20 a few months ago and of course it was bare,but hey I paid 250 bucks for it and the body was straight.I am having trouble with a drive shaft.I have had a few people tell me the shat is supposed to be a 2 peice then a couple peopletoldme no.My brother has a 60 c10 and he has the original heavy duty single peice.What I am wondering is what other types of trucks or vans can I yank a shaft out of that will work.I will post pics soon.I pulled a 350 4 bolt out of a junk yard already and rebuilt it,and it looks awesome now.Thanks for any suggestions and advice!

My c20 came with a one piece. The 64 frame that I am using had a 2 piece. The only way to tell what came with it is to crawl under the truck and look at the trailing arm cross-member. If it is supposed to be a 2 piece, there will be a bracket at the top that would hold the carrier bearing for the drive shaft. If not, then it came with a 1 piece.
Can someone else can chime in with the benefits of 1 piece versus 2 piece (which is a better choice)? |

longer the shaft, the weaker it is. thats why most with a V8 and a 4 speed should have a 2 piece driveshaft. The 1 piece is common in 6 banger/auto trucks. This is not always the case, but a baseline from my experience. It also has alot to do with the length of the powertrain,like a four speed is shorter in length than a three on the tree, a powerglide is also fairly short. Hope this helps

Sweet Thank you guys! I need to see what I can do.The truck dos not have the holes for the 2 piece,but I am putting a bigger engine in,though I have gone automatic in it. I am a truck driver and would have preferred to stay with a manual,but certain circumstances made me decide it would be better in the long run to go auto.
