Re: 20x10 in wheels in back?

depends on the size tire, but I have measured I will be narrowing mine about 2" overall to get my 20x10 4" BS with a 315 35 20 on it. I am also going to be tubing the bed side some so I can keep the wheel as flush with the wheel opening as possible.

I suggest you buy the wheels and tires,... AND THEN,... measure for the new narrowed rearend. That's the only way to get it right. Just my opinion.

I'm also going to be running 20x10s with 315/35/20s and I'm planning on tubing the fenders. However, I'm not planning on narrowing the rearend, so I won't have as much of a "dish".

Re: 20x10 in wheels in back?

I installed a less wide rearend in my truck in order to run 20x10 TTIIs with 3" backspacing. My F*rd 9" is from an early Bronco and is 58.75" from outside of drum to outside of drum. IIRC the stock rearend in 70 is right at 64" wide, so you need to take of a little over 2.5" on each side.

With this setup my 315/35/20 Toyos are about 1/4" from hitting the inside of the bedside when airred out, so I think the 58.75" is a good maximum width. I tubbed my wheel wells 5.5", or basically to the next rib in the steel bed floor, although it was probably not necessary. I now could run like a 20x14 wheel if my checkbook was bigger... anyway here are some photos in no particular order.

Well I have been cleaning up a few details here and there, and driving it a little. I have about 1,300 miles on it since putting it back together last fall. I have about five or six little things left on my finish list, so I still get some garage time. Not sure what I will do when its done... been sorta looking for another truck!

Re: 20x10 in wheels in back?

On a 70 and newer rear end I could not fit a 20x10 with 4.5" backspace. The tire size is 275/30/20. I had maybe an 1/8" perside if i was lucky. I am going to swap to a pre 70 rear end and i should be fine. If my measurements come out to what they should be i should have 3/4" +or- 1/8" per side. That is just my experience though.

Josh

ps. BigSky71 your truck is beautiful!!!!! Very well done!
