laying out?

well to start off i have not posted much on here yet but i just bought a 65 short wide big window with a 283 auto trans all trim is there but needs lots of work...but anyways im wanting it to lay out and i know im going to get the front z'ed but i need to know how much and what is the best set up for the rear i do not want to back half it...i would like to see some set ups if people would post them but the main thing im worried about is putting a notch in the back with the crooked frame rails...im just stumped on what to do how close will it come to laying with a bolt in notch and using stock arms and just putting bags where the coils go?? but anything will me much appreciated thanks alot

i think he's refering to the "factory" bend over the axle.

Look into a Drop Member before you "z" it may seem expensive upfront but really isn't. The link in my sig. can take you to my build which shows the install is pretty easy. 2" Z is really all you need to lay frame flat up to 22's but I've seen guys do more.

if you do have the 2 link rear all you really need to do is get a KP Components or one of the other venders notches. make sure you tell them you want to lay out on (X) size wheel. some are deeper than others. Your links will bottom on the frame long before you lay out. To correct this add 3 or 4" blocks to get the axle up higher. you'll also want to make a longer and adjustable panhard bar to replace the stock one. there are several trucks on the board that can show you how it's done. Frizzle Fry's Tahoe is a good one to look at as well as Gringoloco's blazer.

Take a few mins to look around and you'll see plenty of similar rides "getting down" and almost as many ways to do so.

I think any standard drop block kit ( djm, bell tech, etc.) will work. The last one I did was a '68 w/ 454 and a tacky late model fleet bed. I ended up building a "drop perch" that welded on in place of the stock perch but basically had a 4" drop built in. That allowed me to dial in the pinion angle with out using shims. Sadly while I took tons of pics of my cups anmd plates ( pretty much same thing everyone else comes up with) I can't find any that show the rear other than the bag placement. One other trick I used on the '68 was to flip the lower shock mount/ u bolt plate over and swap left to right. It gives just a little bit more room for the shocks.
