Leaf spring bolts
I plan on removing my rear axle again for a couple hours. While its out I'd like to replace the 1 bolt in each leaf spring pack that holds the pack together and aligns the axle with the springs. What is the size of those bolts?
The last time I seen them they were rusted beyond thinking about trying to remove them so I left em' alone. I figure this will be a good time to mess with them. BTW 77' chevy shorty 1/2 ton with 6 leafs. |

Re: Leaf spring bolts
You’re going to want to replace your shackle bushings while you’re at it. If the bolts are that far gone the bushings will be too. You can go the this site to look for sizing:
http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/c2wd2.html and I have good dealing s with this site to buy them: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...s.asp?cat=2330

Re: Leaf spring bolts
I replaced the leaf and shackle bushings, all the bolts(except the 2 that hold the leafs together), the shackles and hangers, U-bolts, and flipped the rear last year.
The only thing I didnt do was replace those bolts that hold the leafs together. Anyway, I made a mistake up there. I have 5 leafs... Checked it while I was at work today. |

Re: Leaf spring bolts
they are special bolts, you should be able to pick them up at a local drive-train shop. i believe they are extra long and you just cut the excess off after they are installed

Re: Leaf spring bolts
Yep! Replace them. Mine was 35 years old and looked like this...
Bottom 2 springs shifted 2 inches rearward and sheared the rest of the pin/bolt. Replace the U-Bolts too!! They stretch and weaken. - Dave
