salvage yard find, good deal??
i was at the salvage yard today and there is a `79 3/4 ton 4+4
it has no engine and the transfercase is sitting in the bed. the truck is all rusty cab is gone so is the bed, bad cancer. what really caught my eye was on the cab by the door had a emblem i have never seen this kind of emblem was like a tepee so i went to the other side and there was the same emblem. is this like a camper special? im not fimilar with this emblem.its a 20 series truck. anyways they want $300.00 bucks for the truck. |

Nothing special and if it has all thatr rust why buy it? The cost to get it on the road is not worth it. Buy something done or close to it.

if you could find another good cab I would buy it, but if it is a 4 door that could be hard

i have a cab and a bed for a `86 will this work on `79 frame??
i bought a donor truck for my `86 gmc 4+4 1/2 ton to do frame off restoration with.so i have the cab and bed.and the dual tank set up. i think i would rather build the 3/4 ton first since my 1/2 ton is still driveable.but only if i can put the `86 body on the `79 frame. or my other option is buy the 3/4 ton and when i do my frame off on my 1/2 ton do the axle swap and put the 3/4 tons on. any advice from you guys sure would be great. have a nice day, vmax |

Well, first, if it is a 3/4 ton 4x4 with good axles, just the axles are worth $4-500 here at least. As far as I know, the newer body would fit on the older truck, I think there might be a little difference in the body lines though. The only 73-87 I have really ever spent much time looking at was a 76, so I am not sure how different the newer ones are. But, if that is the case, a newer bed would be a easy way to fix that. I say buy it, that is a pretty unusual truck, and they aren't going to get any easier to find.
