what do you think, long step vs long fleet
I have a beater 66 long step, I was thinking about putting a long fleet bed that I have on it.
both of the beds are rough, about the same condition(which matches the rest of the truck), I would just like to keep this one together since it is a runner.... I was thinking of doing a cheap drop(cut coils) and a rattle can flat black paint job. I have a 60 GMC hood that will change up the look of the front, and maybe a 63 grille that I have laying around. Also throw out some opinions on the wheels, I am just going to use the stock wheels with some 225/70 15 thin white walls, what color would be cool? red(too cliche?) green, something else? I was just thinking this would a fun one to bomb around in, nothing serious, just a beater. ...and I know that this is worhtles without pics, so I will try to get some posted. |

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
I like the look of the long fleets better than the long steps, The 60 hood, and 63 grill will be cool. If going black it's hard to beat red wheels. Pics would be cool too.

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
Since Im so obviously out voted can I vote again?
I sill say long step with a spare in the side and laid LOW with a static drop. Fleet sides look great, but differnt is nice too. BUT no matter what, I think you should do a differnt color wheel than red. Baby blue, light mint green, creme yellow, ect. As long as its sort of pastel-ish to go with the era. I think it would be sweet. Red is a classic color that looks good, but differnt is nice too. Not that I need to tell YOU to dare to be differnt. Your radical 60 build is crazy cool.

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
seems like every one likes the fleet...
I was messing with the pic, and found a pic of this fla. truck on killbillet.com, and started to like the looks of the step.... I am still undecided though.... |

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
I would absolutely leave the step box on it. Not because I like it better, but because it all matches.
Chalky, thin, rusty old paint FTW!!! Flat black rattle can job FTL!!! If you think you need to do the hod-roddish shop truck thing, lower it some and paint the wheels copper or something. But, man, if you aren't going to restore it right, don't spend two hours to destroy 40 years of cool. That's one guy's opinion, anyway. Last edited by Revoh; 08-19-2008 at 10:36 AM. |

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
after seeing your pics, I'm digging the long stepper.
also kinda agree with Revoh, leave the paint as is, and maybe some black or dark gray wheels

Re: what do you think, long step vs long fleet
yes I kind of like the green too, only I was going to change the driver door, hood, grille support, and both fenders, for better parts. maybe I can find a close rattle can match for the green....

Hey, if you cut your selection all the way to the edge and bring the whole top half of the picture down it's a lot easier. I normally hate long step beds, but that looks cool sitting on the ground. Paint the wheels and add a door logo and let it ride. |
