one more time: 2x4 to 4x4
Hi all, did you guess that I'm new to the site. I'm sure its been covered too many times to count but I can't find any info so here goes. How bad/difficult is it to change my 72 350/350 with ac long bed 2wd to 4wd. It cant be that bad can it? I mean, it's just a '72, how hard could it be, let me know and dont sugar coat it either. Thanks in advance all.

Re: one more time: 2x4 to 4x4
Easy way:
Find 4wd in rough cosmetic condition and do a body swap. The worst thing you`ll run into is if you don`t already have one, you`ll need the hi-hump area from the donor truck. Or: Everything can be swapped. The frames are simular enough. You install everything over to convert it.Do you have coil or leaf rear?If leaf, the spread between the springs is different between 2wd and 4wd.Not an issue if not needing to change rear. Either way,I would only go about this with a complete 4wd donor because there are alot of things you`ll need from crossmembers to spring mounts,to steering box, etc. It`s alot more than just needing an axle assembly and transfer case.

This is kind of a "If you have to ask..." type of a thing. It can be done, but it is pretty involved. One of those deals where there is so much to it that no one could possibly type it all out, yet if you don't have some kind of experience, you wouldn't tackle it anyway....so you wouldn't need it all typed out.

There are threads here about changing over with your frame. How to's and what all you will need. I never thought it would be that bad if you can cut and weld.
