mid 80's suburban pedal assembly

I read on here and some other forums about some using a pedal assembly from a mid 80's suburban in their Advance Design and Task Force Trucks. I thought Id do the same on my 52 3/4 ton so for $40 I picked up a pedal assembly/brake booster/master cylinder at the local you-pull-it yard. I plan on installing it within the next few weeks and would love to see some pictures of this unit installed in either series trucks.

Also instead of starting another thread, what are some good vehicles to get a tilt steering column out of. Im looking for something (i hope its not too much to ask for) that is not too bulky (just like a after market column), looks good in AD trucks and it would have to be made for a manual transmission truck so I doesn't have the column shifter. Ive heard of using a column out of a 80's something Chevy Van. Any pics of one of these installed.

im going to test fit it this weekend and get a plan together. I need to finish smoothing and painting the firewall before I get to working on mounting the pedal assembly and so on. I need to get motivated first.

With a little modifying, the sub brake pedal assy. you have will fit great. Here are a couple of pictures from diff. angles to show how & where I cut to fit my 51 cab. The end closest to you when sitting in seat will require trimming back as shown in picture, then open up the center as shown, & drill 3 additional holes to bolt into place. 1 hole will pick up the steering collum suppport & 2 holes will mate to the lower edge of the dash. Kinda hard to explain, so with the pictures & your unmodified bracket in hand, you should be able to see how & where to trim. I kept trial fitting & cut a little at a time, & what you see is the final trim that fit.

The last picture above shows the brake light switch mount re-positioned & welded into new location. This new location keeps the switch & wires out of sight. I forgot to mention that I had to weld a tab to the pedal arm to depress the brake light switch in its new position. Here are some pictures of bracket mounted.

started working on it today, this is what I got done as far as modifying the pedal assembly.



I have the stock clutch pedal so mine will have to move over a bit towards the passenger side, so that the pedal arm is on the right side of the steering column. I also cut the pedal pad off and will weld it back on once i get the assembly bolted in so I get the pedal positioned in the middle of the gas and clutch pedal.

I will take pictures as I go.

Question: Do you remember what size hole saw you used to cut the hole for the push rod.

Also, what was the reason for moving the brake light switch? Will I run into problems If I leave it where it is.

I moved the switch location to tuck it out of sight. I didn't want the switch or wires exposed under the dash. (a pet peeve of mine). I cant remember the hole saw size I used, but it was bearly larger than the rubber boot diam. but smaller than the rubber boot flange so the flange is pinched between the firewall & master cylinder
