Re: Square bodies rock

It makes perfect sense to fix-up a square chevy.

Cheap
Reliable
Parts Availability
Simple

The list of things that you can't do with one of these trucks is a short one...

Great article.. alot of the 73-87s you see around here are worked to death farm trucks. If you can find a decent one, you're looking at least a grand for a LWB and more for a shorty. Sledge, I'm 60 miles from you.. we ought to meet up at the next Moultrie swap meet!

Square bodies have been gaining popularity for a while now, and even before then, we all knew it anyhow. This is all old news.

Re: Square bodies rock

There is always a bad side to things like this though such as prices of parts going up at salvage yards and on NOS parts.

Re: Square bodies rock

Up here they are finally starting to die down. It seems the only ones I see on the road are k30 dumps or c20 work trucks. They are probably one of the most popular plow trucks I have ever seen. It is cool to see our trucks getting some attention. Its just sad to see that the junk yard parts picking around here is starting to die out....... dang rising price of scrap

The way I see it, they will all be classics due to the salvage yards crushing everything.

Re: Square bodies rock

Hell I dont care if what I drive isnt popular provided it isnt overly difficult to find parts for it. Always liked the 73-87s best of the GM trucks, so when I got the chance to get a short stepside, I did. Even with all the rust and weak 305 stuffed in it it was still better than the Fords I have, mainly because it actually ran.

I like being the only guy rolling around in whatever it is I am driving, and its usually the case. The 70s era vehicles get a bad rap, some deservedly so, others not so much. Most of what I own are from the 70s mainly because they were cheap in the 80s and 90s. Hopefully next year I will get to cruise the 76 more, and maybe fix some rust...
